This is horrendous. Who asked for this? No one.
I’m good at navigating sites. I run websites. I could not figure out for the life of me how to get anywhere.
And why is everything double spaced?
I haven’t been posting on here as much but this is a BIG turn off. I have very little incentive to come back.
Edit: AND it doesn’t do paragraph breaks? I am young. I have young eyes. I work on computers all day every day. This is just absolutely terrible. Like, I’m not sure who approved this but they clearly have never spent any time on this (or any other) forum.
Well, I was simply reading a thread and this popped up from Bitdefender:
“An SQL injection attempt was made by talk.collegeconfidential.com. We blocked the connection to prevent the attacker from tampering with sensitive data”
Not that I am even sure what it means other than it is way more than I want from any forum!!
@skieurope maybe you can help me through this. This is a long thread and I have comments/replies to make on multiple statements. Instead of posting 10 individual replies one after the other, I copied one statement that I wanted to reply to, started this reply and then went back to copy/quote the next comment. I never left this thread but when I went down to the reply at the bottom, the statements that I had pasted to quote and reply to were gone. Is there a time limit? If I try to do this quickly, I can reference multiple posts but if I go get a cup of coffee and come back, my post is either truncated or disappears.
All the more reason to study cognitive science. Know how people think, feel and communicate in order to create a user friendly site.
Tried to quote to reference post but it didn’t save my draft and it is too difficult to go back and find the original post.
Agree with the person who said that new posts should be bold and not already read posts.
Agree that date, time and name of post should be at top and not number of posts, status, etc.
Finally if there was ever a reason NOT to use Princeton Review, this is it!
Don’t like it at all. It’s a shame but I’ll probably be visiting the Parent Cafe less often.
I clicked on a topic and I couldn’t find how to see the most recent replies.
I don’t see what was wrong with the old format. It’s the proverbial, “don’t fix it if it isn’t brokern.”
Do people read columns vertically or horizontally? The alphabetical list of colleges are alphabetical horizontally across three columns. They should be listed alphabetically vertically in the columns. For example, look at the order that the UCs are listed in the “C” section of colleges.
Ok. I just walked away from my computer, had left this page open, and received a 2nd warning. (I also received notifications of just how much tracking I am blocking…social media and advertising. )
Agree this is quite horrible and not sure why this change was made, when previous version was quite good. It is very difficult to read and navigate, not very intuitive. I read both on laptop and mobile and is equally bad and browse almost everyday without signing in, and this upgrade (downgrade) will most likely reduce my visits.
@lkg4answers I’ll tell you what I do, which may not be ideal, but works. I open a new tab to write my response allowing me to use the 1st tab to page back and forth to copy various posts to quote.
It isn’t as easy anymore to scroll past the the sticky threads and read new content. The “pin” icons are so pale. And there is no dividing lines
The lack of borders at the margins makes reading difficult.
The font feels like a font used for copy in an advertisement. Not a font chosen for legibility.
In general it is too optimized for mobile.
What this change does, is make College Confidential more “stupid” because its hard to read so now it will be less informational, as no one will read and many will post the same stuff over and over as its much harder to READ the blog.
Based on what I’m seeing (ads flashing constantly), not being able to find what I want, and security issues I’ll chime in and say that this is pretty awful. I’ll take a break and maybe come back and see if anything gets changed but I find this forum unusable today.
ETA: I’m posting this from my iPhone because I can’t stand the layout on my laptop. I don’t like it much more on my phone but at least the annoying ad isn’t taking up 1/3 of the screen.
I was reading CC on my tablet this morning, and thought, “Hallelujah, they’ve gotten rid of that video!” But alas, now I’m back on my desktop and there the flashy garbage is. It sucks and is terrible, and it should be removed at once.
I realize we are the product and not the customer, but do you have so little respect for us that you’ll clutter up our screen with that abusive, bandwidth-stealing, electricity-wasting video? It’s possible to re-size the window to get rid of it, but why do you make us do it?
The font choice is terrible. It’s too thin, making it hard to read. Also, why are threads that I’m not up-to-date on in thin font, and threads I am up-to-date on in bold font? That’s backwards! I want to scan for what I haven’t seen, not what I have seen.
Oh look, I hit return and now the page jumps, and the video, that I had carefully removed from my screen by making the window thin, is back again. I hate you, CC.
I have adblockers and I see no ads- havent for years.
Just tons of wasted white space on my screen.
so CC- if you are trying to get more revenue, you may need to rethink your approach.
