Our Fresh New Look Is Here

@CCadmin_Sorin , I think you need to seriously consider just putting this new setup in the scrap pile and reverting to the old format. You now have received almost 700 posts that essentially say they hate this new setup. I have read 1 post that gave mild support for the new setup. That represents an astonishing fail for this new format/interface. Additionally, from a casual glance, it appears that posting traffic on the regular forums on this site have slowed to a trickle. There is nothing wrong with making a mistake. But important to not get tethered to a misstep and then inadvertently crash the entire ship. Minor tweaks are not going to fix this situation. Scrap it, go back to the previous setup, and reflect on how to maybe make another new version down the road.

Really want to hit that Facebook share button. What if we all hit it?

Nah. Looking for something innocuous to try.

Okay I hit the Facebook button. But didn’t actually post. But it worked fine. Another reason to abandon CC.

I respect the Confidential part. I never considered (stupidly) how far my advice or inane comments could be transferred to the internet universe on social sites as lame as Facebook.

This time I am done. A sweet goodbye.

I can’t use this new format. It’s not user friendly enough for me. So long.

I think @SouthernHope’s comments should be taken very seriously. There is no way this site is receiving its normal traffic b/c it is unusable. I am not going to spend time figuring out how to navigate it. I have only read the threads that have come up in my notifications and those forums bc they are then easy to click on.

The part about the traffic is huge bc right now is prime time for rising srs to be in planning/essay/pre-app mode. Losing traffic now means that by the time they are applying, they will have comfortably settled somewhere else for their info.

Is anyone else finding that when one returns to a thread, instead of having the post after the last one you read show up automatically, you are simply put at the top of the page? Then you have to scan each post as you scroll down in search of the one that is new to you. The amount of scrolling is ridiculous. Does some one want my index finger exercised more? I am on an iphone XR.

Wasn’t the facebook button there before?

Yes, the FB button was there before. At least at one point! Never really paid attention to it!

I really dislike the new format. Did you preview this with any of your top users to get feedback on the design? I used to be on the forum several times a day. Now it will be several times a year.

Still hate it but today I was able to see a “see all notifications” option that wasn’t available on my mobile before.

So where is everyone going? I’m already on Face Book pages for my kids’ colleges and the high school classes of 2016, 2018 and just joined for the class of 2020. I’ll stalk Art’s blog for National Merit cut off info in August. Any place else others are heading to?

I’ll pop back in occasionally but certainly not daily. If the format changes could someone please send me a PM?

All good things come to an end. Unfortunately this may be the beginning of the end of cc.

:black_small_square:I do think the font could be a bit heavier to ease eye strain.
:black_small_square:While the wide space in the reply window is a bit annoying, I almost always Preview my comments before posting. I’m actually surprised everyone doesn’t do that.
:black_small_square:A Save Draft button would be really nice.
:black_small_square:I’m going to assume the differences in functionality between Portrait and Landscape mode are intentional - kind of like the calculator apps where basic functions are available in Portrait while less common functions are available in Landscape, though at the expense of easier readability.

^^^ And that’s from a Forum Champion folks. (#691)

First world problems, I know. But what a mess.

Bummer!! I’ve tried several times over the last couple days to find Parents Cafe with no luck. So far I have found only about four forums, none of which I utilize anymore. I found instructions on how to locate the list of forums, but I got nothing more using those than when I puttered around myself.

I’ll give it a couple more days in hopes things settle down and I can find my way around again. Otherwise, I’ll be sad to be unable to navigate this site. ?

Is anyone keeping track of the number of new threads? I’ve looked on financial aid, and parents forum…and there don’t seem to be too many. And unless I’m missing them…there have been no new threads in the premed forum.
I also don’t see some really good and informative posters posting replies…at all. Not at all. Most noted in the financial aid area.

Honestly it is dreadful. I imagine college confidential will seriously decline and a new website will replace this venue.

Just chiming in to echo the disappointment.

  • Way too much whitespace when reading on my phone.
  • too difficult to navigate.

As a go-to place not only to learn and read, but also help advise and counsel, I won’t be doing much of either. (and why are the lines spaced so far apart when typing a response? It is like double-spaced?)

@treemaven What type of device are you using? For me, when I am on the “home” page of the Forums, I can easily see Parents Cafe on the right hand side when scrolling down.

I’d like to thank CC and all the parents who’ve helped me guide my kids through college applications. Now that my youngest is starting college in the fall, I guess it makes sense for me to move on rather than struggle with the new interface.
Good luck to those still navigating college apps; and I hope CC can un-redesign the site so the community can continue.
