If you have a better suggestion for a featured thread, feel free to pass it along.
Some of these active threads on the parents site are over a decade old, yet they are active, and people would be unhappy if the were unpinned. That said, all posts seems to have a “Most recent by” line.
@skieurope - “refer to your earlier post”. Which one? Please link it because trying to scroll up/down in this (*#$)Q(#%^Q)#&%^ new format ( and not knowing which post you are referring to) is exactly the problem we are all having!!!
@skieurope - Not following what you are talking about. But if you are asking for recommendations for featured threads, this one is highly recommended Otherwise, perhaps please ask the PTB to do away with that silly option, ans featuring an old thread is bad for business, as they say.
@skieurope - yes I know this thread is constantly listed in the most active and latest posts/recent activity. Was being tongue-in-cheek (while watching the womens’ soccer). Am guessing they are hotter on that field than we old crankpots are about this new format. I am getting slightly familiar with it but still hate the excessive scrolling needed, and inability to easily navigate on the phone screen.
And yes , I realize Sorin is reading. He has popped in to comment. He liked the “bullet point list of suggestions” idea. Was hoping to get a second pullover shirt as a token of his appreciation ?
I don’t mean to be ungrateful but I am so disappointed with this site modification. It was fine the old way! So much better to see all the forums on the landing page and not have to select from the tree on the left. I am sure that certain threads are no longer seen by as many people. It’s more tedious, harder to navigate quickly, and I have less patience for it so not reading as much as before.
While I’m complaining, I wish mods wouldn’t move threads. People usually put things in a place for a reason, wanting a certain audience to see it. If it’s not as relevant, other can ignore it but I am usually annoyed to see threads moved around and having to follow them elsewhere. Especially in the parent forum, we want other parents to read our threads no matter what they are about.
ETA: I just read some older posts on this thread and now feel more comfortable using stronger language. The updated site is terrible. I hate it. I am using it way less often and looking for alternatives. It’s too bad because I’ve gotten some good advice here but the whole thing is about to fall apart. Right when my 2 kids are applying to college this fall Too labor intensive of a site.
Thank you for posting this! Now we know why they did this latest unsuccessful redesign!
It must make posters feel better to post a long list of improvements they want for this site, but that hasn’t worked in the past. How many times were posters told the team is “working on” something to have it never happen? An example is that mobile app that was promised over and over, but never happened.
I think the active poster list is going to go way, way down. I’m also guessing there will be mods and forum champions who quit, too. But maybe this is part of the plan for the future of College Confidential.
If there is a new place to congregate to replace the Parent Cafe, please let me know.
@TimeFlies2 , IMO, mods almost always seem to have a valid reason for moving a thread. Many people post a thread without a clue as to where it should go. They’ll ask a question about student computers in the financial aid section, or someone will post about the best Disneyworld itinerary in the general parent forum, when it clearly belongs in the cafe.
Valid reasons for moving a thread are that it will get better responses in the right forum, and relevant posts in a forum aren’t bumped down by irrelevant posts that don’t belong there. You’d be annoyed if you posted a question in the FA forum about financial aid that kept bumping down the list because others were providing responses to a thread about computers.
At the moment, I’m guessing posts are all over the place because no one can figure out how to get to the right forum anyway.
I could probably recall a few really great high school posters I’d give the pullover to. The sort of kid who “gets it.” Not the eternal optimists posting misinfo.
But ebay sounds good.
@CottonTales The pullover is a limited offer for over 10k posts. I’m holding out for the $10 lunch at a user feedback meet.
I had a thread not too long ago that was about an incident that occurred at a college, and I purposely put it in the parents forum to reach that audience, but it got moved to the cafe.
