Out $86?

Okay so Wednesday night I contracted food poisoning and was up until 3 a.m being sick. I woke up at 6:30 a.m and continued to be sick. So I went back to sleep and did not go to my AP World test. The next day I went to school to talk to the counselor that was in charge of the AP testing but she wasn't there. So yesterday at school I had a major project due and consequently did not get a chance to see if the counselor was at school. Today I go in first thing and tell her of my predicament. She told me that it was too late to request a refund or be eligible for the emergency testing and that I was out 100% of the $86.

Is this normal? =/ Because it doesn't seem right that because she wasn't at school when there was time that I'm being penalized

Does your school have email? Could you have let her know that morning you were sick?

It seems like a lot of time has passed since the test time.

You’re stuck up a creek without a paddle. She’s not going to be responsible for your lost money, and the fact is that you don’t have any alternative available.

That sucks. Try contacting CB. It won’t hurt to try.

Highlandmom - Our school has email but I was throwing up from around 10 until 3 =/ And when I woke up it lasted until 9.

kiterunner18 - thank you :)

well at my school…if you’re not there when they take testing roll call, they call your house and your parents’ work places to ask for an explanation
couldn’t you have gotten someone to call in for you?

even though 2 days doesn’t seem like a long time, it’s definitely a significant period after the testing
at my school there are no refunds soo…yeah lol

i was going to do a late testing for env sci tomorrow, but had a play dress rehearsal last minute…( there was a bit of confusion) so i went to my counselor & he just said that he would refund all my money except for $13…hopefully he got that right.b/c if i don’t get my money back i would kinda upset…
ask if you can get everything but the $13( i think it’s a registration fee or smt) back?

anamai is correct. The school should (notice I do not say they would) be able to refund everything but the $13. The AP Coordinator’s Manual says that is the fee charged to schools for exams ordered but not open or used. Once an exam is opened, even if a student wishes to cancel his/her grade, payment is due in full. The nice schools will refund students’ money if they elect not to take an exam, but refund policy is totally a local decision and not all schools are very nice. Invoices are not due to the College Board until mid-June, so it is likely that your school has not submitted one yet and should be able to help you out.

The College Board will make occasional exceptions (“emergencies”) for its late-testing ordering deadline (which was last week). But the AP Coordinator has to make the call! Verifiable illness is an acceptable reason for late-testing without incurring additional fees.
