Hey Guys, I'm a senior from North Carolina and I just got accepted by UCLA and I am really stoked about it! I wanna hear from other people who got in out of state and from cali ppl who are going. Will it be a hard transition? Do you think people will be welcoming? I loved the school ever since i visited. Any responses would be great, Cali people or out of state admittees, either way. Thanks!

Hey keoni, I was accepted and I'm from rural Kansas. I'm still waiting on some other U.s, but I'll probably be headed to UCLA.

My only fear is how much I have to pay--i have to pay 6 thousand from the family plus a 25 thousand student loan!

Is anybody else in a situation like this, and is this normal for the out-of-staters?

I got accepted from out of state too, but I live in one of the states that's above California...so I guess I'm "less" out of state than you folks. ;)

Oregon?

My daughter was accepted; we're from Colorado. I don't know where she's going yet. She was accepted to Georgetown and CU-Boulder, and we're still waiting to hear from 2 other schools. But she was extremely excited to hear from UCLA.

accepted as a pre-econ, from New York.

<-------BIGD, texas. =)

im excited. how much is it though? isnt it around 35k, including living costs, the first yr. and then the yr after, you become a CA resident and pay CA tuition? i've heard thats the case, but im not sure. i hope it is.

and yeah, ucla + CA-food = woohooo. i envy the fact that only 4 states have in-n-outs, tx not being one of them.

Accepted from Maryland, but I'm actually from Southern California so I REALLY wanted to get it. I'm really looking forward to getting back to the west coast!

I'm from texas too.
gahhh too expensive!

Accepted, I'm from Nevada. It's closer compared to most of you, but I won't know anyone if I end up at UCLA either.

so which of you OOSers are able to pay for this....

I graduated HS from Cali, but am from St. Louis. If fitting in is your only concern, you'll love it here- I know kids from UK and France who go Greek and feel right at home. Living in LA, people can't be prejudiced without looking like a fool.

Good luck on the money situation, though. I'd love to see more of y'all out here.

I got accepted from colorado also. but it's so expensive. I was really excited about getting in...but I'll have to take 20000+ in loans and my parents really don't want to borrow 80000 over 4 years unless there is a guarantee that I'll be able to pay it off soon after. which there isn't. UGH.
do you guys know if UCLA can give more money? maybe if I called them and described my situation...?

Not positive if I'll be going to UCLA but even though I'm getting basically no aid (just $6000 in loans) my parents will be able to make it happen.

Connecticut

I'm applying to all private schools otherwise so UCLA is the same price as everywhere else (USC, Wash U., Cornell).

i'm accepted from texas. i think it would be pretty expensive to go to UCLA.

Seems like most out of staters were offered 20k + in loans by UCLA's FinAid office. Is this usually the case for oos who don't get Regents?

tuke:

sorry, but there is absolutely no way to become a resident for tuition purposes unless your parents move here. Cost of attendance at nearly all UC campuses is $38-40k.....at UCLA, fees total $25k, and dorms are $11k for a price of $36k this year alone. Factor in travel......and you get up to $40k, which is only a few thousand less than the cost of a private college.

IMO, the UC's are not good value for OOS. I can't see why some of you would leave your home state schools: Austin and Chapel Hill are aweseome.

well I'm from colorado and the public schools here aren't that great. plus UCLA > all of them anyway....

well, i know ucla has a lot of research opportunities. im also wanting to do premed and i at least know how ucla fares in this area. i cant really find much info on how premeds perform at austin. and hey, its LA. but you're right bluebayou, 40k is a bit excessive...
