This is a question for those who come from out of state-how is your financial aid package?

Or

If you know about Umass financial aid practices, then how do they treat out of state applicants in this area?

Thank you for your time.

If you look at the CDS (Common Data Set) for UMass - here, see page 18 or so - then you see how much aid they give and the process. The numbers differ but the process is the same from school to school. You are evaluated according to the FAFSA and they crunch the numbers to see if you qualify for aid - grants, loans, self-help. Each school has a different method of changing the federal numbers and no school that I know of uses the EFC as calculated - which is a big misunderstanding for students, because they think that if their EFC is $5K that they’ll get money to cover all the rest. That is generally not what happens. Out of state is not a consideration for aid, though in-state residents can qualify for a tuition waiver by meeting certain state standards.
