Out of State- is it worth it?

I live about 30 minutes from the Georgia/Florida line, and UF is actually a shorter drive than UGA- and I guess FSU is a shorter drive than either one, but for some reason I just don't like the idea of living in Tallahassee. So anyways, would going out of state here be worth it? I mean, do they have any scholarships for out-of-staters? My first choice college is Emory, which I could easily get into now, but I can only go if I get a full scholarship so I'm having to consider other schools.

I also have a few other questions- does going to a large university make you feel like you're just a number? I'm afraid that if I go to a huge state school I won't have any one-on-one time with my professors, and I'm the kind of student who really values those relationships. Also, how's the English program?

I'm not even sure how I became interested in this school; growing up, I lived near Tallahassee, so even just mentioning the Gators was unacceptable. :P

Out of state is going to be significantly more expensive than going to a school located in Georgia, probably to the point of rivaling tuition at a private school. So, if you need a full ride to go to Emory, you will probably need a sizable scholarship to attend UF as well.

As far as getting one-on-one time with professors, that’s up to you. You are probably going to be in some large classes, but you can still engage with your professor by going to office hours and making an effort to get to know them. It works strongly in your favor to do so.

If I lived in Georgia I’d just attend Georgia Tech. Going out of state for UF is really expensive and Georgia Tech has some higher rankings.

The OP is asking about English programs. GT is not for them. It’s an engineering school. UF > GT for pre-professional programs, liberal arts, psychology, etc.

That being said, UGA would be your best bet because of in-state tuition. If you get scholarships from Emory, that’s where you need to go.
