Out of state junior girl...can I get in/ would I fit in?

-I am a junior girl, and I am considering applying out of state to the University of Texas, Austin. I would really love anyone's opinion on whether or not I even stand a chance at getting in!
-I expect to have a 95 GPA by the end of the semester from a very difficult and well-known private school
-SAT Scores are: 720 math, 720 critical reading, and 740 writing
- I have extensive volunteer experience (over 400 hours to date, and I have won several awards for my service) and I am currently the head of a project to build a library for homeless women and children
- I have a lot of hospital experience (useful for my planned nursing major) and I am working in a clinic this summer
-I have lettered 3 times as an Athletic Student Trainer
-I have made Honor Roll every semester of high school
-I scored a 221 on my PSAT, so I am hoping to be a National Merit Finalist
-I have also taken 3 honors classes and will take 6 APs by the end of high school

And also, how well do the out of state students fit in? I've heard its very Texas dominated and I'm from Georgia.

And lastly, if I do become a National Merit Finalist would I have any scholarship money?

Thanks!

i dont think UT gives NMF money, but i could be wrong. Texas is filled with Texas kids.
I would think you have a decent shot, but majority of the OOS kids have great stats like yours.

lol when people on here post about their volunteer work, i get the feelings there lying. (not trying to take a shot at you)

What school at UT are you trying to get into? McCombs School of Business, Liberal Arts, Nursing, etc. ?

UT stopped giving NMF scholarships this year. You have great chances. You’re most likely in for sure to any college…

I want to be a nurse but I thought that you don’t directly apply into the school or nursing?

McCombs might be difficult, but either way, you do have good chances. As for nursing, you can directly apply to the school of nursing, but it is also quite competitive, specially for out-of-state students.

especially*

I think you have a great stats. I think you can get in. I would have a backup, like Liberal Arts. My OOS daughter had no problem adjusting to UT as an out of stater. She loves it. She has friends from all over the country, but mostly Texas.

Good Luck

Your stat is more than adequate for nursing. However, you need to do pre-nursing first and then apply for nursing (all nursing students need to do that).

You shouldn’t have a problem fitting it. Just live in a dorm the first couple of years to make new friends.

While UT stopped giving scholarships for NMS, we actually have a new scholarship called the 40 Acres Scholars Program that we are just raising funding for right now. 75 students per class (300 total at any one given time) will be given approximately 20k (instate) 30k (OOS). There are also other scholarships that you can apply for as well.

UT Austin is one of the largest universities in the country. Therefore “fitting in” won’t be a problem. There is just about every culture you can imagine at the school.

You have great stats and I wish you the best in your college applications.
