In for example, biology, would a school being out of state or even private matter since most grad programs pay for your tuition?

I'm wondering if I should even pay attention to a specific school being private or out of state?

Thanks

nope. and they don't really seem to give preference to you as an in-state applicant either. apply where you need to.

Privates often give better stipends, although I don't think that's a reason not to apply to publics. Just sayin'.

Thanks guys!

I currently got residency in cali so I was wondering whether I should take advantage of that for grad school in the excellent UC system but it looks like I can apply anywhere. =)

Still cheaper to stay in state though.

Nonetheless I applied to 0 in-state schools and 2 out of state publics hahaha.

captain scruffy,

can you explain why it would be cheaper to stay in state? (if one has no family or friends to live with)
