Out of state residency

If you go to an out of state private college, then can you apply for a driver's license in that state? For example, I live in New York but will be attending and dorming at a private university in Michigan. Can I apply for a driver's license in Michigan and will I be considered a Michigan resident (in terms of both tuition and fees for my sophomore year AND legally, will I be a Michigan resident or continue to be a New York resident)?

If it’s a private college, then there is no difference in out of state and instate tuition. You should look on the Michigan DMV website to see if you can get a driver’s license if you establish residency there, and if it’s possible.

You need to have proof of residency in state…a drivers licence is not proof of residency, normally they will ask for utility bills and such. So if you get an apartment in Michigan and have lived there for a few months then I think you can get instate tuition.
