I remember once seeing a spreadsheet that had the number of students enrolled at UVa from each state. Granted, it doesn’t say how many were admitted from each state; however, it gives you insight into the OOS make-up. As already noted, a LOT of students come from NJ, NY, PA, NC and other nearby states. There are also quite a few from TX, FL, and CA if I recall. Naturally this makes sense to me since these three states have such large populations. Like Dean J said, though, most all states were represented.

Here is the spread sheet jc referenced:

UVA – I enjoyed meeting the new students and families, and I look forward to working a couple sessions again this summer.

When I was at a large event at another university - the admissions staff half-kiddingly asked is there was anyone there from North Dakota - they really needed someone from North Dakota so they could say they had students from all 50 states.

Most east coast colleges saw increases in applications from California this year because of the severe cutbacks in funding for California public universities.

That’s a good point Charlie. I’m from California, and the budget cuts definitely played a role in my college decision. The UC/Cal State system is suffering severely.
