Out of State Tuition Help

Hello, I am a senior in High School and starting the application process for college. I am a resident of Alabama but I really want to attend college at Mississippi State. My parents say they will only pay for me to attend an in state school. Here is what I need help on. My parents have owned a house in the state of Mississippi for over 20 years that we use only during duck hunting season and sometimes in the summer. Would I be able to attend Mississippi State and pay in state tuition even if we dont live there all year? I have heard some colleges ask for bills, licenses, etc and we could use the bills and possibly hunting licenses to prove we own a house in state. Thanks for the help in advance, it is my dream to attend State but out of state tuition is not an option.

You need to read the information about in-state residency on the Mississippi State U website. Use the search function of the website to look for it. If you can’t find it, pick up the phone and call them and ask.

in the Mississippi state residencey req:

So there are some programs you can do for instate prices being from Alabama and going to Miss. State. What do you want to major in?

Unfortunately that most likely will not work. In order to be instate, you also need to graduate from a high school in mississippi. If you send transcripts from a high school in Alabama they will know you dont really live in MS. However, If you can get a 26 on the ACT then they will waive the oos tuition cost. I am from arkansas and have a 27 so that is what I am doing. I am also a rising senior and am seriously looking at mississippi state. Hope everything works out for you! dont forget application opens August 1st!
