Out of state waiting to hear bout honors program

Hello all,

Son is witing to hear about Honors at be end of March. It sounds like a waitig list. Is anyone else experiencing this as well?

I guess you could consider it something like a waitlist. My daughter, who is a junior Engineering Management major and in the Honors program, was admitted Early Action the beginning of February, and waited until about the third week of March for her Honors invitation.

I assume that those not accepted during Early Decision admission or Early Action, are admitted as space permits to Honors. It would depend on how many students invited to Honors accept admission to the university and/or Honors program.

Until my daughter received the Honors invitation, she was still considering other colleges as she had some nice offers. The Honors invitation was a factor in her eventually choosing Miami University.

We are in state by the way.

OOS awaiting Honors offer as well.
It will likely factor into D’s final decision as well as her campus visit this coming Friday.

Also OOS waiting to hear about honors program. I emailed them around February 9 and received the following response: “All Honors Applicants from the December deadline will receive an update on the status of their Honors application within the next week.” No word yet and DD is losing interest in a school that doesn’t seem very interested in her anymore…

OOS, found out in November not sure what is holding up your decisions.

Fwiw, our S (NMF) applied before the early application deadline (not a binding ED) and heard in December about admission. The admit info also said he got into Honors, their special merit scholarship program (full OOS tuition), and something I think is new this year called their Presidential Scholars program, which is additional merit aid. This was before the FAFSA; the full aid packages come out in early April. We went to a Make It Miami event last month and they confirmed that all of these are available to him up to the May 1 commitment deadline.

We applied EA, got a letter in early December that she was accepted, and then received notification that she got a merit scholarship. I am assuming she was not accepted in the Honors II round of decisions but will hear something in the Honors III. She has great offers from other schools so I am not going to sweat it - I’m more curious than anything else.

We are waiting to hear about honors too…Same situation with acceptance and merit scholarship. How did you D do with scholarship? We were hoping for a bit higher.

She got $12000 per year, which was the top of the range for her test scores/GPA. We were happy with the offer - they are very clear about the qualifications for each level. She had received a hand-written note from the head of admissions inviting her to apply for Honors, which impressed her - but this current lack of communication, not so much.

Ds circumstances are 100% identical.
My assumption is that students with these stats are on the “bubble” for Honors. We always knew that would be her circumstance so she is anxiously waiting but not annoyed.
We shall see…

@GunnerDad, we have closer options and a couple of surprise admits to top schools/programs, so I don’t think we will “make it Miami” - but this experience has been interesting. The radio silence really contrasts with the great communication we’ve had from the other schools she was accepted to. Everyone I have talked to who has attended, or is attending, Miami absolutely loves it - that’s what put it on our list to begin with. I hope this swings your way!

DS received the full tuition merit scholarship OOS but waiting for honors. Being out of state and having never visited the school as of yet, being in the honors program would surely entice us to visit Oxford sooner than later!

@B16Fan, I’m surprised at the radio silence from MU since the admit. Our S has had a steady stream of contacts since he got his admit letter/Honors/OOS merit aid notifications, including a couple of nice letters and just this past week a handwritten note on a postcard from a current MU Honors student. Just curious, where else did she get in? What is she planning to study?
We have a long two months ahead; first waiting for March 28th, plus the FA offers (if/when/where else he gets in), and then, if there are one or more others in play, a quickie trip to LA/Houston/Providence/Ithaca/wherever to check them out so we can make a decision by May 1st.

we are still waiting for our Son to hear on honors… wait listed. Also, note that the scholarships are fixed per year…tuition goes up (on average)at Miami 3%…Costs will be @ least $2,700 more by his fourth year…if they continue to raise it at their 3% average rate.

Admitted to a top-5 architecture program and admitted to UNC. Not sure which way we’ll go; she’s undecided on major, one is in-state, one isn’t. The cost difference is significant. We did receive a card or letter at some point that said something to the effect of “the Miami way is not to bombard you or make promises of better housing and course selection if you commit to us early,” so that’s exactly how it’s been.Financially, Miami would be fine, but we now have some options that are 4-6 hours closer to home.

Hello all,

Any thoughts about this growing interdesciplinary program? They are ranekd in the top 15-30 schools.

Ps … I contacted the school via my DSs local rep and he was very warm and responsive. He put me in touch with two folks to learn more.

So we don’t hear back from Honors until the 28th? This is so nerve wrecking. I guess I’ve been wait listed to although they never said that… I applied ED… But kind of late so I’m waiting to hear back still
