Passes are good for 1 day. So, if you sign out on one pass on Friday evening, you must be back by taps. Two passes is a "night pass" (must return by taps the next day). Three passes is a "weekend pass" (Friday to Sunday night). On weekdays, you can sign out after your last duty, but must be back by Academic Call to Quarters (usually 7:00PM)...same for Sunday evening.

Don't get on probation! That is the easy way to see your weekends evaporate and your class standing go down the drain.

Wow! We were told by a 2011 cadet that she currently has 22 passes left. So, could she take weekend leaves as frequently as she would like? Are there restrictions on how many weekends you can leave according to your class year? When using these passes do you have to stay within so many miles of the academy? How does that work?

you can leave as long as you (or your class) isn't restricted, and assuming you have passes to sign out on. you cannot leave the 150 mile radius of USAFA on normal passes w/o proper approval

Yes...but not home....
Do a lot of people leave during the weekends? With that many passes, I would think by Friday, it might get a little quiet at the AFA. Am I getting the wrong impression?

Some squads will give you more than the 5 you're supposed to have when you're a 4 degree, but that wasn't the case in my squad. I have over 20 passes too, but that's because I was on lists and did community service, etc. Just don't expect to get a ton of passes automatically, that's all I was trying to say.

And technically we're still not supposed to wear civilian clothes unless we're signed out, but no one really obeys that rule. You have unlimited on-base passes (apparently you're supposed to sign out if you go to the gym... found that out during the UCI) so there are ways around that rule if your squad is uptight about that kind of stuff. Most people don't really care that much after Recognition. ;)

A note on that, though: Don't get caught out in the Springs wearing civvies before Recognition. You will definitely regret it. But at your sponsor's house? No one will know, let alone care.

Table 5.1. Chargeable/Accountable Passes (By Class and Performance).
Baseline Excellent Outstanding 1 Merit List 2 Merit Lists Supts List Maximum

4* 5 +5 +10 +5 +10 +15 30

Hard to read. But Baseline is the first five and each grouping after that are the +'s. (ie, 1 merit list = +5 on top of which squad rating the squadron got (base, excellent, outstanding)).
