Outside classes to "replace" Spanish 4

I am a sophomore currently taking Spanish 3. I am doing well and I enjoy it. I am having a schedule crunch junior year and there will have to be a casualty. I am considering not taking Spanish 4 next year. I have read a great deal of good advice on this thread, both for and against such a plan

I have heard that there are immersion summer programs or other ways a student could demonstrate proficiency to a potential college. Do you know where I could find such a list?

Concordia Language Villages and Middlebury Monterey Language Academy are the two most popular US language immersion programs, although Spanish is popular enough there are likely to be others. Concordia will issue an accredited high school transcript with a percentage grade.

You can probably find summer abroad programs that will suit your needs, too.

What courses will you take that will squeeze out Spanish 4?

I would make every effort to take Spanish 4’

We have a family friend who will be doing the credit program at Concordia this summer for Spanish 4. She wants to fit in a study hall next year along with a pretty tough schedule. It’s a lot of work to get a year’s credit in a month and it requires $$$.

I would try to fit in an accredited college course rather than paying a lot of $$ for high school credit through programs like those offered Middlebury or Concordia. There are online classes offered by a number of universities that might provide a fair amount of flexibility. Is Spanish IV an AP course at your HS? What would you take instead of Spanish?

Many colleges will waive your language requirement if you’ve taken a language through AP IV (language and culture) and/or AP V (literature) level and have gotten a 4 or 5 on the AP exam(s).

Is it possible to plan to wait to take Spanish 4 your senior year? My S had a similar issue with his schedule while in HS with German. He even ended up having German as one of his college majors, and studied in Germany (classes all in German) so taking a year off during HS didn’t hurt him.

Thank you all for your feedback. I am looking into the options presented and I am still open to taking it senior year,
