Aside from your text and prep books, what were the most helpful books you read?

Read course-notes.org outlines; i study from that and i almost got a B. pretty good considering the majority of the class has a D or C

agreed course notes chapter and vocab outlines and do the quizzes on there too...i didnt read the textbook. Princeton Review for cramming for the AP test...got me a 5

what about historical fiction or biographies?

you dont need to do outside reading, just read the textbook

I recently read Lies My Teacher Told Me, but I don't know how much it will really help for the exam or anything. It was interesting though and I got a better idea of certain eras of American history.

i agree w/ corroborator
you dont need any outside reading..
if u have time to to do that, read more from textbook

yea, I agree with the above posts. I also second the course-notes thing.

Is the course notes site only for the American Pageant text?

i liked the invadersrealm's notes. http://www.colinjeanne.net/apus/history/notes.htm
REALLY good, i think better than the course-notes site. you dont even have to read the book, and you will ace the tests. (i did), and i got a 5 on the AP. but that was cuz i read the AMSCO review book in three days :-/ some major cramming......

The invaders notes look really good.

My daughter is going self study, using the Amsco book as well. I have read other posts where it was used instead of the text, but have been reluctant to do this, thinking we would be leaving something out.

for summer reading we had to read Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis and the Birth of the Republic by Morgan

Don't Know Much About History, by Kenneth C. Davis.

Oh comon, Am I the only one here who has to read outside articles and books for apush?

My teacher makes us read thick biographies, like Andrew Jackson's... And almost every class we get over 10 page articles to read and analyze. Maybe that's why I'm failing this class lol.

Our class has to read "Killer Angels" over Thanksgiving break. Joy.

But like everyone else, I use course-notes and Invader's Realm notes. I also make my own outlines for chapters that I'm a bit rusty on.

Don't Know Much About History is more of an enjoyable read..not so much reference...gives you the facts straight forward..written in a fun way...

our regular class textbook is Brinkley..not very hard to read..but my teacher gave me Amsco (blue and grey thick small-ish book), and it has helped me SO MUCH on tests.

isnt invader's realm and coursenotes the same set of notes?

no they're different.

here are a couple good ones from our summer reading list:

FOUNDING BROTHERS: THE REVOLUTIONARY GENERATION / Joseph J. Ellis
THE JUNGLE / Upton Sinclair
THE PECULIAR INSTITUTION / Kenneth M. Stamp
ALL THE PRESIDENTS MEN / Carl Bernstein & Bob Woodward
WHY VIETNAM STILL MATTERS / Jan Scruggs
BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE / Dee Alexander Brown
