Question about receiving scholarships not from the school you will attend. If I have get a few local scholarships where will this money be taken out of when I attend school. Will it reduce my work-study, school supported grants, student contribution, etc. Just wondering how this is going to work out.

If you get outside scholarships, then it will most likely reduce your aid from the school. That's why, if possible, you must always request that all outside scholarship aid be sent directly to you and not to the school because you want the school's money also. However, you could also send a nice letter to the school requesting that your financial aid not be decreased because of outside scholarships while also reminding the school of your inauspicious financial situation. My sister did this, and washington university did not decrease her financial aid packet despite the fact that she got a considerable amount of scholarship money from outside sources.

When you get outside scholarships it is first used to devrease your self help financial aid (your student loans and work study) afterward any school grants scholarshps will be reduced,

Lately in order to prevent douple dipping and dishonesty in the process (no matter how you slice it Vtoddler's sister was not forth coming with her outside scholarships) many scholarships are now made out to the student and the school. Also depending on the school your not disclosing your outside scholarships could cause you to repay the school the money lose your financial aid .

thank you sybbie719 :)
