Outside the classroom at Bentley

Hi all. My son is interested in finance and we found Bentley to be a good fit for him. We have not had the opportunity yet to visit the school (we are on the west coast) but have reviewed a “walking tour”. It seems like the business opportunities/facilities are top notch, just wondering about what school activities, outside of business, are available. Son is also considering the Kelley school in Bloomington,Indiana which as a very large state school offers tons of activities. Just wondering if students at Bentley have the same opportunities to connect with each other or if the school is full of “mostly business” oriented kids who don’t care about other activities. Thanks for your input on this issue.

My son is a grad student there; thus, take what I say with that in mind.

Bentley is a very driven place. The kids are more driven and generally smarter than my son saw in his undergraduate studies at Towson Unversity. However, there are over 80+ student organizations. In addition, Bentley has a great athletic facility for work outs. It has numerous tennis courts and sports fields too. Don't forget, it is also in Boston where tens of thousands of college kids reside.

Check out this url for some of the things going on there:http://www.bentley.edu/campus-life/student_orgs.cfm

Be advised, it is a small school. You won't get as many extracurricular activities as that of a big school just by virture of its size. However, there is still PLENTY to do. However, if your son wants to attend Bentley, he should be a very motivated, driven kid. These are generally the types of kids that go there. I even met a football player who was very academically motivated and driven since football players don't get athletic scholarships.

I strongly advise you and your son to visit the school Bentley seems to be a cross between a good business oriented school and a small liberal arts college. Also, kids can take liberal arts courses at nearby Brandeis if they want. They also have one of the best "trading rooms" I have ever seen. If wall street ever needs to close down due to an emergency, the traders can run their operation from Bentley. You really need to see the trading room.
