I am a second semester freshman who is not happy at bentley. tbh this school is all about accounting and finance and thats not what i wanted to do. i came here knowing that it was a good business school but i did not know it was going to be so centralized around those two fields and sooooo much math. From being here i think i discovered that i would rather major in communications and minor in a field like marketing. BUTTT i dont know where to go!!! BRYANT UNIVERSITY has been at the top of my list always. i like that its small and still close to home. I know it has a good communication school and business school so its like the best of both worlds. But am i going downhill??? Like am i taking a step down or is bryant a good school too??? suggestions pls help??
help pls Where should i go???
If you are MA resident just go to Mass Isenburg and you can study anything and save a bundle.
@undecided9797 My son is currently in the thick of this. He is a HS senior and applied to both schools. Fortunately for him he is leaning towards Accounting/Finance so Bentley would be a fine match for him. Our only problem is cost. If you have the finances covered then consider your self blessed. A transfer to Bryant not not offer much scholarship money like you might be receiving now at Bentley.
I really believe that a student will thrive in a place that just feels right. It is one of those X factor things that just cannot be quantified. Bentley might not be the place for you given your choice of major. Bryant and Bentley are both very good schools with great internship/career opportunities. I think the general consensus is that the “killer B” rankings go as Babson, Bentley, and Bryant in that order. The reality is that your determination will bring you farther than any “bump” you might expect from either University. they are not top tier schools like Harvard. Your ultimate success will come from you more than from whether you attend Bentley or Bryant.
I know you are down on the school atm but I would be interested to hear what else you have to say about the school as it might help my son decide. How are the dorms (trees? lol.), The social scene? The athletic vibe? etc. Feel free to PM me as that would be more appropriate so that this does not highjack the thread.
Best of luck to you.
Bryant advertises that they provide good merit scholarships, so if you have good grades you could transfer. It all depends on your grades. What state is your residency in?
mass i was accepted there so they said i could just reactivate my application
You could try UMass Amherst too, or any of the UMass schools really.
@undecided9797 Did Bryant indicate they might provide scholarship money to you if you transfer? I am under the impression most schools give out very little money to transfers. It is good that they will just reactivate your application.
Transfers get lousy aid. How much would Bryant cost? Ask them about transfer scholarships.
Bryant is a good school, as is UMass Isenberg. Apply to both.
“Merit scholarships are available for outstanding transfer students for the fall and spring semesters and range from $9,000 to $20,000. Scholarships are based on the application for admission and are renewable.”
You’re going to find the same accounting / finance leanings at Bryant. If you don’t like Math, you may not be happy there because the core is math-heavy. I will say to check into it because when I graduated several years ago, even if you majored in a liberal arts field like communication you are still going to have to take math and a business core. If you choose a non-quantiative major, you could end up with a lower GPA than some of your peers from other schools, because of the math exposure - - assuming you don’t love it, which it sounds like you don’t. This is also true of other school’s business programs which have less math than Bryant’s core. Much of the Career services support is geared towards the finance and accounting kids as well - no change there from what you’re seeing at Bentley. It’s definitely for a certain kind of kid and a certain kind of job…with that said, there are new programs popping up so definitely look into it. A bit more chill than Bentley kids but not by much. If you don’t know what you want to, check into a school with more options so you’re not as limited. If you’re not happy doing the classes, and end up not liking the kids there, AND you’re stuck in Smithfield, you may be unhappy all around at Bryant and feel that it’s Bentley all over again.
Bryant is an AWESOME SCHOOL! Our son graduated there! It is a drinking campus but most are. That was my only complaint. They are a wonderful group of administrators in fin aid office and all around campus. The environment is very happy! The only happier campus I have seen in Earlham in Indiana where everyone is super friendly and cooperative. Bryant has a strong alumni group and our son got a job before he graduated. Super nice campus-very new and clean! I highly recommend it and my son still says how great it was. I’ve never met anyone unhappy they went to Bryant!
@Cheryl22 Cheers to that!
My son hopes to attend Bryant as well. Just need a few tweaks to the aid they are giving him and he might be a go.
Did you attempt to challenge the initial Merit aid package from them? Any luck? They offered no FIN AID. I guess they think we are rich just like the people at Bentley told us. I don’t feel rich. Damn these private schools are EXPENSIVE!!!
@MassDaD68, glad to see things are progressing. Hope it works out!! Good luck!!
I am actually transferring out of the UMass system (Dartmouth) to Bryant myself and cannot wait. Bryant has done nothing but grow and that is all I can see doing there. While Isenberg is a great school, you won’t get the same individual attention there as you would at Bryant. I know I was offered a $10,000 academic scholarship there with little financial aid. I come from a little bit of a legacy at Bentley and my cousin is there right now so I initially was going to transfer there, but fell in love with Bryant, everyone I know who goes there loves it and has even said they have seen more doors open for them than they ever expected there.
