Overall BU Experience

Hey I am a BU prospect and I was wondering if anyone who went there could tell me about what it is like to go there and whether or not the price was worth the academics. Thanks!

Not worth the price for sure, but the name carries a bit of weight

It depends on what you want to study and how much of the price tag we’re talking about (full price? No… no university is worth 65K a year, not unless your parents are millionaires and that’s chump change). I went to BU for journalism, for which BU is a top-ranked school. I had a full tuition scholarship, and had to take loans to cover room & board, amounting to a total student loan debt of about 40K. I have had ups & downs and struggles with that amount of student loan debt (this was before Parent Plus Loans existed, and if I were going to school now I would NEVER get a Sallie Mae loan), but personally my BU education was 100% worth my 40K in loan debt (a lot of which I’ve paid down). BU was a perfect fit where I made lifetime friendships, got in excellent networking and learned some writing/deadline/life skills that have aided me in my career. I work in TV in Los Angeles & do a whole bunch of other stuff (novel writing, convention planning)… and a lot of what I do comes from things I picked up at BU.

But I would never, ever, ever go into debt/have gone into debt at BU for, say, an English or a Psych degree. Waste of money. Some of the programs/majors are more worthwhile, which you could say for any number of schools.

DD graduated in Communications. She is working in her field, and felt so strongly sbout BU that she volunteered to be a campus host/guide for all four years. She saved a nice chunk of change by overloading every semester and graduating a semester early.

Depends on the program, but not worth the price.

Depends on the program or if you’re getting really good financial aid. Interviewers and employers will be impressed by the name
