Overall percentiles???

<p>I know collegeboard lists your percentile for each individual section, except for writing, but is there a way to know what overall score is in what percentile?</p>

<p>for example would a 2100 put you in the 97th percentile? and since they aren't giving percentiles for writing i doubt anyone is gonna find a 2400 percentile chart, so if you find a 1600 percentile chart that's fine also.</p>

<p>would taking your two percentiles, for math and verbal, and averaging them together be an accuarate way to find your overall percentile?</p>

<p>no, averaging two percentiles would not be very accurate at all. There is a chart I've seen somewhere with 1600 percentiles, it might be on collegeboard.com...search there for it maybe.</p>

<p>it's alright, i'm the 97th percentile too. remember, test scores aren't everything! i hear course load tends to be way more important to colleges.</p>

<p>this website can really make you feel like a failure, even if you're a student in the top couple percent in the country! everyone here is just too smart.</p>

<p>Do you think that because colleges now have percentiles to compare writing scores with that they'll begin taking it more seriously? This question is of particular importance to me, since I got an 800 in the writing, but my other two scores were almost 100 points lower.....</p>

<p>i think that colleges aren't sure whether or not a good writing score on the SAT has anything to do with whether a student will be a good writer in college. technically, the SAT test is supposed to be an indicator of how well a student will do in college (yes, yes, i know this is not really how it works). an 800 will definitely look good, especially when compared to students who did less than you, but i don't think it caries the same weight as an 800 math or reading yet, because the only classes that have taken the writing portion of the new SAT are just beginning college or not there yet, so there's no way to compare their scores to their success in college.</p>
