Overall Tax/CSS Profile question

I decided to do my CSS Profile today but couldn't even make it past registration.

The latter parts asked if I would be filing my own taxes and which forms, but the problem is I don't know if I need to or not.

My parents have been claiming me as their dependent for all their lives but in the year of 2013, I got my first job and I turned 18 also.

I made $6500 gross.

So from what I've read I need to file 1040EZ and my parents still claim me as their dependent. Is this correct?

Are there any other forms that I have to fill out?

Will I need to fill out things for CSS profile/fasfa that I will only find out once I get my W2?

And not sure if someone can answer this but.... does anyone know how to find out the value of my home?

Yes Make sure you

Your parents or from the real property tax bills.

For home value estimates, try Zillow [Zillow: Real Estate, Apartments, Mortgage & Home Values in the US](http://www.zillow.com/)

The usefulness of property tax assessed value varies from state to state and how recently the assessment was done. In NC, assessed value is supposed to be fair market value, but its usually not current, as assessments are not done annually. Also, the CSS Profile FAQs specifically says: “Report what you could reasonably expect to receive for your home if you were to sell it today, not the assessed, insured, or tax value.”

I thought Zillow was high for my home value, particularly compared to other homes on my street (including the new, larger house right next door.) The assessment was updated two years ago. I went with the midpoint between assessed value and Zillow’s estimate of value.

I also used Zillow. My assessment is higher than the Zillow number. In this market, it is very hard to have an accurate value unless a similar house has sold nearby.

I filled out the CSS Profile for my daughter. I think that filling out the CSS Profile requires a certain financial awareness that most 17 year olds don’t have.

Since your parents still support you more than 50%, you may still consider their dependent. When you file your tax return, you just need to check the box that you will be claimed by someone else as dependent. You do need to file your own tax.
