I have a question about class registration in Penn. The CAS website says that students are limited to 5.5 credit units per semester. How many classes does 5.5 credit units represent? If I go overload, will Penn charge additional fees?

5.5 credits means 5 courses and a lab. Tuition is a standard fee.

You can register for more than 5.5 cu if you have your advisor sign off on it.

Penn’s tuition for full time students is the same regardless of whether you take three courses or seven courses. … You don’t want to go any more than 5.5 courses your first semester, freshman year. The VAST majority of CAS freshmen actually do 4-4.5 first semester.

Stay within the limit for freshman year–you’ve got enough to adjust to!

I took 6 courses one semester. I had to go to my guidance counselor to get an override but it was no issue and I was not charged any additional tuition.
