mi1368 I haven't really figured out what your interest is in this thread. I see you have posted in the BC forum but do you actually go there. And what is your interest in NEU? More importantly, what makes you an expert on NEU's academics?

I'm taking Calculus 2 Honors, Chemistry 1 for Engineers Honors (along with a lab for honors and a recitiation), Enhancing Honors, Engineering Design Honors, Intro to Engineering, and Comparative Cultures (Honors only).

mi1368
Some of us are actually parents who are genuinely interested in providing information for students who might be interested in NEU. We aren't trying to make ourselves feel better about our academics. We are actually adults who realize there is more to life.

In all honesty, I do not care about this thread. I just think its funny how there is a 5 page topic on NEU's reputation. And for the parents, please leave the college decision making to your kids; this is their life/future not yours. I am sure your children will make the right choice on a college without your help.

"And for the parents, please leave the college decision making to your kids; this is their life/future not yours. I am sure your children will make the right choice on a college without your help."

mi1368--you're too funny! Obviously, zepprcok couldn't make the right choice on his own since he apparently chose NEU solely for its honor dorm.

I love you how all attack me for saying the truth about NEU. It is ranked 96, is worse than BC/BU/Tufts, accepts kids who yell out windows that they have marijuana, is very inconsistent with regards to scholarship money, has mediocre professors who make tons of mistakes, has atrocious jail-cell-like freshman housing (except for WVF), and rejects some elite students out of fear that they will say no anyway because it is a safety school. Those are facts that you cannot dispute. Again, regardless of whether I went to NEU or not, this would be true. Don't argue with me because I'm right. Scansmom--you're too funny! At least you have 354 posts as a parent (pathetic) and can spell rock correctly. You edited for a typo, which means you revised your post and you still missed a big one considering you've read my name many times in this thread and still somehow managed to misspell it.

zepproxck, don't call parents who post here pathetic, your rudeness is uncalled for

when you resort to rudeness, you pretty much lose your credibility

as for MISPHELLING names on a website, egad, the horror

and scans mom is correct, parents should give their 2cents, we have earned that and often we have good insight and can ask valuable questions, give suggestions

citygirlsmom is absolutely right about your rudeness. And your credibility has been pretty much non-existent with statements like:

"Don't argue with me because I'm right" - now those are the words of a mature, intelligent individual. How about:

"I chose such a terrible school because it has really sweet freshman housing" - well thought out on your part Zepp - a lot of analysis went into that decision. And then there is:

"Oh yea, its not hard to get into and they accept pretty much everybody." which is absolutely false with a 39% acceptance rate.

Your parents must be so proud.

RatedPG, disprove my points in that post where I said I was right. Oh wait, you can't. You said yourself, RatedPG, "everyone has a certain "fit" school. The factors include academics, location, culture, finances, rank to some extent, and there are many more." The "many more" includes freshman housing, which is why I chose NEU. And I'm not being rude, I'm being frank and upfront. You all just can't handle it.

And my parents are proud that I got a scholarship, am taking some of the hardest courses available to freshman, and still find it a joke. Your sarcasm is not appreciated.

But are they proud Zepp that you are an arrogant and egotistical freshman that is rude and thinks that a school's only merits lies in its US News ranking? A ranking which, if you have read even a little about how they are developed, is extremely flawed and biased.

And taking Chem I is not the hardest course you could be taking, didn't take that in high school? And a ChemE major?

RatedPG, I didn't say I was taking all of the hardest courses available. I said I was taking SOME of the hardest courses available to freshmen. It would help if you rephrased that last part of your last post because it makes absolutely no sense. And FYI, I got a 5 on AP Chem. And yes, a ChemE major.

I'm just pointing out that if you are as smart as you say you are, and you are a chemE major, I would think you would be taking something other than Chem I. And my post made perfect sense. And I am finding this an incredible waste of time going back and forth with you.

I can only hope that your tendency toward rudeness and misstatement of fact will subside as you mature and that you start to appreciate what you have and use your self-proclaimed intelligence in a positive way.

Choosing a college has little to do with choosing a future. At 18, most kids are utterly unqualified to make a decision on their future. Thank god nobody is asking them to do so. The parent's role in the process is to make sure that the kid is asking the right questions, and making sound decisions. The daughter of some friends of ours was hell-bent on a college because her boyfriend went there. Now there is one decision I will never stay out of :-)

I'd like to chime in... not that this argument hasn't gone on long enough. I'd like to comment on a few of Zepprock07's comments.

Mediocre professors who make tons of mistakes? Sure. I've had a few. Especially in lower level classes--it happens. Have I had some incredible, inspiring, and brilliant professors? Definitely. Are some of the freshman dorms pretty awful? Sure, but no worse than freshman dorms at other schools, although you could always luck out and be placed in Kennedy or 319 Huntington if you aren't honors. Also, sure, yelling out the windows about your weed is a stupid, stupid thing to do, but find me a school where no student has ever been caught with weed because they were being idiots. Are Tufts and BC "better" schools? Sure, depending on how you look at it, but no school is flawless. BU... maybe it's my NU bias, but I think it's only a matter of time before our reputation becomes just as good, if not better, than theirs. Either way, they don't say it "sucks to BU" for nothing!

Also, as far as financial aid/scholarships, I've experienced nothing but good things. They were more than helpful when I turned in FAFSA 3 months late!

Northeastern has its flaws. It's just recently started gaining a better reputation, and it still has a lot of work to do. Still, zepp, I think your criticisms are a little exaggerated and unfair. Also, enjoy West village, have the mice made their way into F yet? Only a matter of time. Make sure to get a good housing number for next year, otherwise you'll be stuck in Rubenstein with the cockroaches, or an apartment the size of a closet. The horror!

sorry for the late reply ratedpg (if you're still watching this thread haha). what i meant is that NU has a very modern campus, which is a huge contrast to older, traditional/traditional looking colleges such as BC or the ivies. academically, NU focuses more on the professional schools rather than the liberal arts (huge emphasis on co-op). so unless ur in the college of arts & sciences, you probably wont get a "well rounded" education, but rather you will learn "how to be a _____." also, BU being integrated into the city is pretty self explanatory... the campus = commonwealth avenue, aka there hardly is a campus. the city is its campus.

zepprock, get some friends..

Northeastern: PayScale - Northeastern University Salary, Average Salaries

Stanford: PayScale - Stanford University Salary, Average Salaries

MIT: PayScale - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Salary, Average Salaries

Compare the engineering degrees. Big difference.

You win Zepp, Northeastern sucks.. so the sooner you get out of there the better.

Bye

honestly zepp? I'm pretty sure no one is arguing that northeastern is a better school than a school like MIT or stanford...

I'm just showing you that it does matter where you go to school and that the name/ranking of a school is important (contrary to what many of the people on these forums believe).
