Two rumors I have heard about Emory is that there is no school spirit and an overwhelming number of Jewish students. while i am not antisemetist, i hear that most of the girls a "JAPs" with a negative connotation. So are these rumors true? to what extent? PLEASE DONT LIE TO BOOST EMORY'S REP, I ALREADY APPLIED SO YOU GOT MY APPLICATION MONEY!

Emory is a wonderful, elite college with lots of diversity. In my opinion, it’s one of the best colleges in America, but it’s not for everyone. Respectfully, I would say that it’s probably not a good fit for you.

Glad you’re not an antisemetist. At least you got that going for you.

i should say there is a good level of school spirit considering how academically focused emory is. Since emory does not have a football team it does effect spirit considerably. However i find the spirit adequate enough…lol its only gonna get better when i get there…lol thats my mentality…

also whats wrong with jews? i never had a Jewish friend im actually anticipating making some…lol

I transferred to Emory and found a lot of the girls to be clones of each other: polite, driven, ambitious, cold, cliquish, attractive, wealthy and confident. I haven’t any idea whether the white-appearing girls are JAPs or not; I can’t tell if someone’s Jewish unless they have a lastname that ends in ‘berg’ or something like that. Also, Indian girls and Korean girls at Emory are for the most part very very cliquish and less nice/sociable than the female population in general.

I second you sabahmasaa. As for school spirit: Definitely not much in the traditional (sports pride, bloohah) sense, but is adequate. If you come, you’ll find the rumors to be a little out of whack, because they are normally played up by those that feel really strongly about such issues. Most of the student body will acknowledge these stereotypes and poke fun at them, but don’t really feel that strongly about it to the point of it negatively affecting their stay here. I also don’t understand why people who don’t really like Jews attend here knowing that, Jews, like Asians are about 1/3 of the student body (then again, I’m pretty sure many of the people who feel so strongly are some Asians, the Asian Americans in particular. I imagine most internationals can care less).

like all the other top 20 schools, Emory does have a lot of Jews and Asians. But compared to Vanderbilt and other colleges, it is more diverse. way to stereotype people… there are nice and mean Jews like all the other ethnic groups. plus, in any top school, there are going to be a lot of wealthy people. you shouldn’t base your college selection on if there are a lot of Jews. It’s like saying if you are not gonna go to a historical black college because you are afraid that you are going to get robbed and killed. In every school, if you are a nice and social person you are probably not going to be a loner.

1st of all, the word is antisemetic, not anti semetist.
Most elite schools have a large percentage of Jewish student. Cornell & Columbia - 22%, Harvard- 25%, WashU- 33%, Yale - 23%, Tufts 32%, Barnard 40%, Northwestern - 38%,
Penn - 28% Brown - 20% are just some examples.
I suggest you try community college if you are looking to avoid a school with Jews.
Look deep into your soul and examine what would prompt you to even ask such a question.

Are those numbers right? I thought Emory ranked like 8-9th and it only had like 30-35% (not only that, but hardly no other top research U was to be seen). I don’t remember Northwestern or WashU having that much. I imagine Cornell and Penn are ahead however. But you’re right. The person should not look to top schools if they want to avoid Jewish students.
