Overnight experience?

From SoCal  Can’t wait to meet all of you there!

Hey everyone,
I’m a current senior and I’m glad you are all so excited for MHC! I would highly recommend coming for an overnight visit. It really gives prospective students a chance to get to know the campus, meet other students, and get a new perspective on student life at MHC. The event is meant to show you a typical weeknight, not a weekend and hosts aren’t encouraged to take their prospective students to parties but our visitors generally give very positive reviews of their experiences, so please come and see us for yourself!

YAY! I just registered for Experience MHC   Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I signed up too! I’m doing the equestrian center tour despite having been there once before, then the living/dining/playing one. I was torn between that and the academics tour, but I want to check out prospective residence halls (: I’ll post pictures for anyone who wants to see them as well! If we all post a couple hopefully the people who can’t make it can at least see a bit of the campus.

I wish it were closer!! Though, as a transfer, I also wish it were kind of after finals and everything haha.

MissGen- i definitely think you should come and visit. It’ll certainly help you get a sense of the community feel and also of the campus life. I wouldn’t worry too much about fitting in. I was nervous about coming here especially because I didn’t have a great high school experience, but then I got here at orientation and I met the best friends I’ve ever had. I also think part of what makes Mount Holyoke so incredible is that there is a hugely diverse student body and there is literally a place for everyone to feel comfortable and welcome on campus.

So, what did everyone think?

As a transfer, I felt a wee disappointed at the dinner where they cheered and screamed for the class of 2016 but never mentioned those of us who aren’t going to be frosh–FP women included ): Otherwise, I generally liked it but it really wasn’t anything that blew me away. It was a pretty packed Sunday, so all the running around didn’t leave much time to relax and enjoy just being there… imo, at least.

I didn’t hit any cultural/academic open houses–did anyone else? The rain and cold made me just want to curl in a ball and sleep haha.

Despite the only okay finaid package, MHC is still top on my list (though I have only heard from one other college) and I’ll likely enroll. I got a water bottle and license plate frame, so I’m committed (;

Hey everyone!

So… how was the visit? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the school. I hope you all had a great time!

Eeep, hated it–it totally ruined the school for me. Tons of sketchy experiences for me and my friends who visited. The worst was my friend whose host had a guy over in the middle of the night and proceeded to have sex with him while the two prospies were lying there in horror. My night wasn’t quite that bad, but yeah… compared with how great BMC/Smith’s overnights were, I was confused/disappointed by MHC :/

I’m so sorry to hear that diana2012! That certainly does not sound like a pleasant experience :(

I did go! Aside from being soaking wet, I thought it was amazing. My host was absolutely lovely and I had a really nice time.

@Cwhaticando – I went to the Jeannette Marks house and absolutely loved it. LGBT activism is kind of my thing and all the people there seemed like the kind of people I’d enjoy spending time with. Didn’t hit up any of the other ones, though.

@Diana – That’s horrifying! There was a girl named Diana on one of my tours and I wondered if it was you. I’m sorry you were disappointed…

I’m glad to hear you had a much better experience than diana2012 did MissGen! You didn’t let the rain get you down :)

Any observations you can give on the campus vibe or anything else?

Diana I am kind of surprised that something like that happened. Most colleges who have students host prospies make the student sign a pledge not to do things like that or serve alcohol, etc. when they have such an overnight guest. It is not only irresponsible but displays the college in an unfavorable light. I would report such an incident to the school admissions department. If it indeed happened.

Agree–a transgression like that should be reported. In fact, if it isn’t reported, I would then doubt that it really happened. I think it’s that serious.

A pledge is only as good as the integrity of the signee. A Smithie was expelled for a serious offense that she committed during a Smith accepted student overnight. And I agree, if the incident happened, it needs to be reported. Actually, it already has been. MHC administrators read this forum.
Diana, Mount Holyoke is a fabulous college. Please don’t let one negative experience sway your opinion of the school. Good luck at whichever college you choose.
