Hi. I will be going on some OV's this fall (ivy and NESCAC). Can anyone tell me what to expect? also, any suggestions about what to ask and what I should be saying/doing. I heard they bring in a lot more swimmers than they can support. Is there anything I can do to help get their support?

thanks.

have times better than the other recruits…Seriously, that’s the number one factor.

My estimate is they bring in 4-8 times more prospies than they can offer full support, but it’s the same 30-40 kids visiting the same 4-5 schools, so there is full support at one school for roughly half. This is for ED, so the coach is sure he’ll get his swimmer.
Some of those 40 kids will also be looking at Ivies, and some will decide against NESCACs
Some will be academically strong enough not to need full support.

Things to ask: where do I fit into your recruiting plans? what kind of support can you offer me? What percent of students in my situation are accepted? When can I hear about a pre- read? Do you see any weaknesses in my application?
You don’t ask these questions until you are having the “talk” after the OV has gone well.

You need to know realistically what your chances are before you commit to applying ED.

Thanks for answering. You say we will have the talk after the OV has gone well. My question is what is going to happen on the OV? what would make it go well? I really don’t know what to expect at all. Do I get assigned to a swimmer that I shadow all weekend? Do we go around as a pack of recruits? Do you think that I will have an admissions interview?
