Sorry to ask this here, but need a quick reply because I need to send out the application tomorrow or soon and I know that some parents here have sent their kids to Oxbridge.

Ok, my parents finally said that I could go to Oxbridge, I've only wanted to go to England for a long time. lol So they said they won't say yes until I write the essay, then they will decide. Essay done, several revisions. However by now, we are past the auto course deadline. So, today they finally look the application over.

There are 4 housing options. single dorm/private bathroom $400, shared room/private bathroom $300, single room/floor bathroom, or shared room/floor bathroom.

Mom & I decided on shared room, since I might make more friends that way. HOWEVER, now they ask is it a coed floor or not. And I said... what if it is coed. Well they aren't sure about me going then. Ugh.

So my question to parents: Are the dorm floors coed or not? If not, anything to reassure my parents that its ok?

Thanks for taking your time to read this :D

k- even if they were single sex dorms, what does that mean?

boys on one floor, the other wing, and kids hang out with each other anyway
I sent my D last summer, great program and if your parents want some reasurance, I can give them some

mostly they well be single sex floors or wings...that is what my D had...she had the best time

hers was boy floor, girl floor, boy wing, etc, varied according to dorm building and bathrooms were all single sex

there was excellent security, the classes were great, the staff wonderful, the food, eh, the trips great

are you doing oxford or cambridge?

ps- it lived up to all we expected, and the classes my D took helped her ALOT in HS- from the paper writing, do the discussions etc...it wasn't just fun times in the classrooms, it was work, but she loved every second

We house boys and girls in separate hallways, staircases, or floors. The majority of our faculty and staff live in the dorms with the students, so there are adults available to monitor and counsel 24 hours a day. All students must be quiet and in their own rooms as of 11pm on our Prep programs, and midnight on our high school programs.

My D went to Oxford two summers ago (after her junior year of HS) and adored it. She had a roommate on a single-sex floor. She said the classes were quite good, but what she really loved was the experience of exploring Oxford and the friendships she made with the other kids. She's still good friends with many of them, and they've gone to visit each other at their various colleges.

for my D she made many friends from the east coast, and has visited with them.....when she goes to college, she has some connections and they will be friends forever

hope you go!!!! My D was in Cambridge then went to London

Next year, my other D is looking at the Paris program...we shall see

Mom was mostly worried about the bathrooms, and girls going back and forth to the bathrooms after showers, etc.

My parents wouldn't let me go last year, and I can tell they aren't completely sold on it now either. They think I'm still too young. I'm very sheltered. lol The program is in July, and I turn 18 in October, sooo..

It was a real shock when they said they would think about it! I put the brochure on the table, Mom came in and I moved it an inch to attract her attention. She said she would look and it and .... :D

My D attended the summer of 2005--Cambridge. During the London bombings...she flew over on her own from the West Coast-age 15-turned 16 in Cambridge. Staff VERY MUCH on top of EVERYTHING. My D found the classes stimulating:World Politics and Shakespeare, and still IMs her friends.D grew up-had to do her own laundry, figure out when she was going to eat, and when she was going to work on her studies. Students from all over the world-I feel it was a life changing experience.Good Luck!

How long is it going to take to get my letter?! My address is complicated, its a letter, which gets confused with things like; east, west, etc. But still...

Been taking new doggy with me on a walk to mailbox every day in the freezing cold, and no letter.

They got it around the 18th, cashed the check by the 25th. I'm /speculating/ that I got accepted since they return the deposit if they reject you.

lovelykittycat,
Congratulations! My daughter went to Oxford last summer and had a wonderful time. I hope you will have an equally positive experience!
