I am currently a student at a prestigious boarding school in America. I wish to apply to PPE in the future at Oxford and I was wondering what you think of my Sophomore schedule and what I should do in the rest if my career to be competitive.

Sophomore Year:

Honors Algebra II

Honors Physics

Classical Greek

Latin II

Modern World History

English II

AP US Government

AP Comparative Government

It seems like a very rigorous schedule, but Oxford generally only look at how well you do in relevnat subjects to the course you want to do. So you’ll want to make sure you do as much as possible of maths, economics and history, as well as philosophy and politics if you can.
As a UK student, I can’t comment to much on your schedule and what classes you should take, but those subjects are the key ones they’ll be looking for.

Search a levels to do for PPE, I found one thread on The Student Room that was quite interesting, however they are talking about A levels, so it exactly what you’re looking for.

Thanks! What can you tell me about the entrance exam and interview?

Thanks! How are APs looked at in the place A-levels or IB.

I think that APs are considered to be not as hard as A-levels, so you will have to take more of them (only 3 Alevels is enough, but I’d recommend at least 6 APs if possible). I think IB would be preferred over APs if your school offers it. However, Oxford gets applications from students from all over the world. You will be one of many thousands of applicants who have not done A-levels or IB. If your school offers APs, then do some APs. You can only do the best with what is available to you.

I agree with UKgirl23, look at the A-level subjects recommended for PPE. Ideally you need to take the same or similar AP subjects. Anything which makes it easier for you to compare academically to all the other applicants is good.

I hope you have contacted Oxford with your questions. They will have complete information on what they are looking for from a foreign applicant, and what APs you need to be aiming for.

KEVP

Please be aware that PPE is one of the most difficult courses to get admitted to; at some colleges (Balliol, Magdalen) they only accept 5 or 6 students each year. You should contact the Tutor for Admission at your preferred college. He/she will provide guidance on the specific AP exams you will need to take. Oxford will consider your scores on ONLY these APs, and you will most likely be expected to get 5s in each. If you don’t, your “conditional” offer will be withdrawn.

You should also note that there is virtually no financial aid for overseas students.
