This post is kind of out of left field, but does anyone know anything about Cambridge and Oxford? I'm pretty ignorant regarding foreign schools (public schools in exurban Georgia aren't exactly major international feeders), but I figured I had nothing to lose by looking into it. I want to major in economics and get an MBA. Would either of hose schools be a good fit for undergraduate studies? Also, what do they consider when looking at American applicants? Are there any statistics on average SAT scores and the like? Thanks.

Hey! I’ve been looking into those schools as well (but decided against) so I’ll just offer what I know. You can only apply to either Oxford or Cambridge (not both). You can also only apply to one program. If you are interested in Economics then Oxford offers Economics & History, PPE, and Economics and Management. Cambridge has an Economics Course. They all have different admissions stats, taking a look at the “entry requirements” for each will give you an idea of how competitive the program is. Well that should get you started!

You will also probably find more information than I can provide at the UK version of CC - http://www..co.uk/ and the schools websites (where you will find tuition costs etc).

Oh and UK students do not take SAT tests so I cannot offer further advice on that, but there’s probably something about that @ The Student Room.

To even apply to Cambridge, you need five 5s on appropriate AP tests, plus high GPA and SAT.

To apply to Oxford, you need 700 on all sections of the SAT, or a 32 ACT plus three 5s on AP tests or three 700s on SAT IIs, all in appropriate subjects.

Not impossible, but it’s not like you can just throw an application over the wall like you can at HYPSM.

For Oxford, you can actually use a combination of SAT II and AP scores, since I had only two SAT IIs and two APs, and it was fine.

Also, be ready to dedicate a lot to the application… its a lot of work, with the TSA, or other test you may take, along with the interview if you get one. Especially if you are applying to American schools as well, you’ll need to know that Oxford is looking for different things than American schools.

Whoa those requirements are pretty low.

I thought those schools were supposed to be good.

Nah, those are just for the application being eligible. To actually seriously get read, you need a 70-80 on the TSA (for the PPE major, for example) which is tough as nails, and prove yourself in an interview where four professors try grill you to tears. It was tough.

Though tbh I got an offer with a 3.1 gpa ;P
