Oxford Colleges

yeah... well, I think I'll send them an e-mail just to make sure. I applied for the biochem program. What about you? Don't worry about the phone interview; it'll be an awesome chance for you to impress them even more!

What is the Norrington scale based on?

haha thanks! umm i think i am going to send an email as well just confirming this phone interview ... i applied for ppe. you from the states or canada? goodluck with everything

[Nelle178] Assuming you're from the US, how would you compare the 4-year Biochem degree from Oxford with the standard American BS from a top university like Harvard for example ? I also wonder how difficult it is for an Oxford graduate to move later to a top US school for PhD studies.

Yep, I'm from the US. Compared to US schools, Oxford's biochem program is intense. And I mean, INTENSE. US schools have this thing they call "great liberal arts education" which means you have to take classes in history, classics, and literature as well as those for your major. For many great US schools (like U. of Chicago) only 1/3 of the classes you take actually count towards your major. For Oxford, meanwhile, if you sign up for Biochem, that is all you get. So I personally feel that you'd get an amazing biochem degree if you went to Oxford... but the top US schools would provide a great program as well. It just depends on how sure you are about your subject and how in-depth you want to go. I would loooove either option.

As for PhD studies... with an Oxford degree you are pretty much set to study anywhere.

Where are u from, bruno?

whatever you say, britishers are still ahead in education... etc..

two more weeks until the decision!

good luck all!

thanks!!!!

im soooo nervous for the written exam tomorrow!!

Simran, are you doing your written exam from home?

lol, Biochem=no exam!! Why is my course so perfect? =)

I wonder when we'll get the decisions... I read somewhere mid-December, then in another place it said by Christmas... or early January... I hate waiting.

UK students are supposed to receive Oxford descisions by Christmas Eve (24th December). So assuming they're all posted 22nd/23rd December students in the rest of Europe might just get them before Christmas, but the rest of you will have to wait till afterwards I think.

Can we apply to Oxford or Cambridge as a transfer student for Fall 2008 coz i missed the deadline of October 14th (if i remember correctly) and so could not send in my application.

Hoping that Imperial will accept me but apart from that there is some prestige in going to Oxford or Cambridge

Hi all,

I applied to Oxford this fall, I was allocated to Pembroke for engineering, cupcake can you pls tell me hw pemborke is? Are we allowed to change the choice of our course later?

oh an btw....im anxious too...to kno whether im admitted....am waiting!!!!

[nightfox] Just out of curiosity, why did you pick Oxford for engineering ? Wouldn't Imperial or Cambridge be better options for engineering studies in the UK ?

sudu1989, you can apply to oxford from university/college in the US, but remember that you start over at year 1 rather than beginning in an advanced place in the course. Good luck with Imperial!

hey noo i wrote the ppe exam at my old school... did anybody else write any exams?? and by the way, i spoke with the admissions officer from balliol who said that they are letting ppl know on december 15th...

bruno123 -

[nightfox] Just out of curiosity, why did you pick Oxford for engineering ? Wouldn't Imperial or Cambridge be better options for engineering studies in the UK ?

well...imperial rejectd me :(...dunno why...prob becuz they dnt consider the indian cbse syllabus or somethin...and u cnt apply to cam and ox together...i duno..i felt i hd a bettr chance at ox...

times higher education supplement ranks them 13 for engg, in the world...i suppose they r gud!!

sudu1989: as heerothewizard said, you can't transfer into Oxford from an American university (or anywhere else if it comes to that). You would need to start at the beginning going through the full application process.
