transfering the app to oxford (like, apply to oxford instead of emory) would increase your chances of getting in, but I don’t think oxford is as good an option as arizona. You are actually in a good situation with that full ride. Honors is an amazing program!

Personally, I would wait on Duke and Pomona and commit to either if you get in. If you are WL or rejected, then I would commit to Arizona honors and stay on the waitlists for all the schools that offered you a spot on the wait list (this is important- stay on the WL!!!). If you’re interested in grad school, the state school with full ride looks good and is perfectly explainable (as in, “you could’ve gotten into an ivy, but got a good money offer” is what grad school admissions will think, especially with the honor program).

If you do get off the waitlist, I would still weigh the importance of the scholarship. Also, I would send letters of interest in the last week of april to all the schools that waitlisted you to help increase your chances of getting in. You never know if a spot might open up at Emory or Rice (or Duke or Pomona).

Arizona is a really good school. I know a bunch of grad student that went there, and a lot of them got prestigious fellowships. It’s a great school. I would feel great going there, especially with a full ride. That’s really great! I would take that situation over oxford any day. Personally, I would consider transferring your app to oxford, but I would also wait on the rest of your applications and weigh out the emory tuition versus a full ride… I would follow the money, because putting yourself in debt is a big thing to do, and the emory name probably won’t help you much more than the arizona name. People do know that both are good schools, and if anyone makes a face at arizona, just say you got a full ride, and they’ll smile really quickly.

Full rides are rare, and I’d take it and be very happy, regardless of your other schools. I know the idea of a state school might not be very appealing, but the california schools are really tanking. The tuition keeps increasing, and funding is circling the drain. i wouldn’t hang my financial future on that. Arizona is still going strong (there are a couple new buildings, I hear)… think about it, but def stay on the waitlists and see what happens!
