They only send you an email if they’re missing a part of the application

ijoolee, i worried about the same thing, with my scores being:
Academic GPA (10-12): 3.37 unweighted, 3.60 weighted
SAT: 680 math, 680 reading, 770 writing (i took it twice)
AP tests: English Language (5), World History (3)

in the way of scores, that’s really all i had. i didn’t take any of the SAT II’s, i took very few AP classes, and my gpa was relatively low

HOWEVER

i also had a few things going for me:
- i had very few extracurriculars… VERY few. part of it was because i never felt like i could pretend that i cared about key club or any of those service clubs enough to put the effort into them. i also had 0 volunteer hours. but what i did have was two extracurriculars that showed where my interests and passions lay: jazz band and newspaper. i suppose it helped that my high school’s newspaper has a reputation and has won a bunch of awards in the past, but those were the only two EC’s on the common app page, and i think that kind of thing can show where your interests really are
- my grades were pretty terrible, but they steadily improved over time. my freshman and sophomore year were awful. i got mostly b’s freshman year and even got c’s in both semesters of math my sophomore year. however, my junior year, i turned things around and got mostly A’s, and took a couple AP classes (WH and lang) that also furthered any indication of my interests
- i think my essays were pretty good. write with voice and honesty.
- my interview went extremely well. i got almost unfairly lucky as my interviewer also worked on oxy’s newspaper staff at one point and had a shared interest in comedy and a lot of the same TV shows i like. i went in to the interview with the intention of letting oxy know that i’m an interesting person, which is really what they want to see, i think

all this amounts to say: as long as your scores aren’t dismal and you display some sort of passion, then all hope isn’t lost

Is the deadline January 10 12:00 AM or January 10 11:59 PM???

Did anybody that applied ED get merit aid? Can you share some stats?

i got the trustee scholarship (12,500/year)
-3.9 unweighted GPA, 32 ACT.

i found a website awhile ago that tells you the criteria for each scholarship. the trustee scholarship is for applicants in the top 5-10% of their graduating class.

Canoodle, what is that website? I haven’t been able to find that information. Could you possibly share any other of your stats? Thanks!

i’ve looked so hard but can’t find it either. i remember finding it somehow then the next day trying to find it again but couldn’t so I had to go to my history to find the site, which unfortunately is long gone

When should I expect to hear from Oxy if I applied regular decision? I’m so anxious!!! I’ve tried to look it up but I can’t find any helpful info…

Posts # 26 & 27 – this may (or may not) be the merit aid website you are looking for:

Hi all, so does anyone know yet what date/how we’ll get notified of Oxy’s decision? I’ve heard its by post unless you’re an international(then its by email) - but I have no idea if that’s true or if so what date these would be… Any help would be very appreciated! :)

According to another thread, they mailed stuff out on 3/25 last year.

Thanks tougis, hmmm I wonder where that leaves us this year… I’m gonna be anxiously waiting from the 25th onwards! Actually, who am I kidding… I’ve been anxiously waiting since the moment I clicked ‘submit’!

Oxy’s my first choice so I totally understand the anxiety, Britishstudent.

I applied ED and got deferred so now that the waiting feeling is sinking in again, I’m not sure what to do with myself.

nyavericks - Oxy is my first choice too! I really wanted to apply ED but wasn’t allowed because I’m an international student applying for financial aid, which unfortunately rules ED out … So I had to make use of the early action slot elsewhere and got deferred from there, so I totally get you, being deferred is the most frustrating thing! The waiting now is so tough though, especially now when we know that they probably have decided on our applications already, and are just finishing up until the official notification date comes. If only we could just know the second they file our application into the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ pile!

I heard that Oxy sends decisions via priority mail, and they may be going out tomorrow or Friday!!!

I checked my mail today and nothing yet. Maybe tomorrow! On their Facebook page, they said that they’d get them out before the end of March at least.

They sent them out today!

Does anyone know when/if the decisions come online?

Hi Kennedya9,

Their online comments on their Facebook Admission page include an answer to the same question as yours. Apparently for U.S. students, all decisions are told by snail mail. I can see USPS Priority Mail large envelope pictures on their Facebook page. They said emails are sent to international students due to the international mail lag time for notices.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Thank youuu ^^
