Packing for college

I leave for school on August 25. For anyone who's also leaving soon, when do you plan to start packing your stuff? And to any returning students, when would you advise to pack? I feel like right now is too early but I also don't want to be scrambling around searching for all of my stuff a couple of days before I leave.

I’m leaving on August 20th and I’m already starting to pack stuff that I know I won’t be wearing for the rest of the summer (jackets, ugg’s stuff like that) I will probably do most of my packing the 18-19th.

I’m leaving the 12th and haven’t started yet. I have all my bed stuff together though…I’ll probably start w/ the clothes tomorrow then hopefully be finished Tuesday (to allow for any last-min trips).

I move in on the 13th and I have most of my stuff packed save clothes and school supplies. I probably won’t do clothes until the day before.

I leave on the 20th, but move-in isn’t for another week, so I’m probably going to do more shopping there and less packing from home.
Mostly because I have to fit it all in plane-friendly bags and the climates are pretty different here and at school.

I might pick up some jeans and maybe towels or something if I find I have space and can find some decent ones here. But Oregon = tax free, so maybe I should wait. haha

I move in on the 20th. Haven’t packed anything yet. I should probably pack all my clothes. I bought tons but since I haven’t gone anywhere, I haven’t worn any of them. At home, I just wear tanks and shorts.

All my stuff is currently stacked up in our guest room. Got everything except my hygiene stuff, detergent and softener, and a rug (which I’ll be getting with my roommate when I get there).

Well, then there’s boots. I forgot to buy a pair of boots when I went clothes shopping…stupid mistake. All I’ve got is converse and flip flops. I might have to wait until I get there though.

So I really should start packing. But I’m too lazy. I’ll do it eventually. -yawn-

I move in on August 19th and have yet went dorm shopping. All my recent weekends/ days have been dealing with events ( mainly funerals), mom is over 700 miles from home until next week. I guess I will get everthing done next week and probably have a better ideal of what to pack.

Move in day is the 14th for me and I haven’t started packing yet. I’ve bought almost all my necessities except school supplies (Tax free weekend tomorrow! WOO.) and little things…I think I’ll start packing next week.

Question: What are you packing your stuff in (if you’re not flying)? Suitcase, laundry basket, boxes? And which clothes are you bringing now? Like any winter ones?

I leave on August 25th as well, and I’m planning on packing on August 20th…

I move in on the 14th and I haven’t even begun packing yet. I have stuff like my comforter and other items that I bought specifically for my dorm in a corner, but nothing else has even been moved from it’s normal place in my life.

I am moving on the 31st. I haven’t unpacked from last year yet, only my clothes. So if I could, I’d be processing all the crap I brought last year NOW and would probably start actually packing in a week or two. Not sure how it will actually turn out. I have summer classes until the 20th and I have no free time at all-- which is why I haven’t unpacked from last year yet.

My only advice is that I really recommend completing your packing the day BEFORE the day before you move at the latest. You want to be able to relax that last day. I was up all night the night before I moved in and got so stressed out trying to get everything done I made myself sick. >.< It would be ideal to be able to have your last day at home be like a normal day and get a good nights sleep.

Last year I packed in garbage bags and bankers boxes. I didn’t like it. This year I bought a luggage set to use, and I will probably still use a few of the bankers boxes-- they have lids, handles, and are sturdy so are good for breakables. Everybody has their own preferences. Using the garbage bags and boxes made coming home for breaks too messy and I trashed my room every time I came home because everything got strewn everywhere, I wanted something a little more organized and that’s how I got the luggage.

I only bring summer and fall clothes with me at first. I swap out for winter clothes at Thanksgiving. My parents are unwilling to ship anything, ever, under any circumstances, so I have to plan what I bring carefully. Last year I was regretting waiting until Thanksgiving to have my winter coat.

I move in the 28th and I’ve bought about 75% of what I need so far. But in terms of packing I don’t even know where to start. I’ll probably be packed a couple of days before I’m set to go though.

I’m leaving the 17th, so I really should start packing now! But there are still a bunch of things from last year that I never unpacked, so that helps.

meh i leave on the 19th, and i’m only halfway done >< procrastination ftw

^I leave the 12th and I haven’t bought everything yet, let alone pack it! I plan on devoting all of tomorrow to getting 100% ready.

I leave & move-in the 14th (SATURDAY!). I have a lot from an apartment I lived in so I didn’t need to buy that much. I also know I’ll be living in a super small dorm so I’m planning to take at the most half of what I took last time! Only a few things left to buy and not much to pack.

I’ve been using storage bins to move, and they’re pretty okay. You can fit a lot in each one so I’ll probably only need 2 this year. I’m planning to start packing mainly Thursday, but I really don’t think it’ll take me that long. Plus I’ll be back pretty soon after I move so I can just get what I don’t take the first trip then  Yay for going to college close to home…

I HAD THE SAME EXACT QUESTION!

I leave on the 22nd.
I have only bought sheets, towels and a blanket.

I will DEEP CLEAN my room and computer today and get to sorting out stuff.

This week is my “get things done and bought” week so I can relax next week.

Official move-in is on the 21st, but I signed up for early move in on the 14th, where I will have an hour to bring as many things as possible to my dorm room. Then they kick me out and make me go back home for a week to sit around and be a nervous wreck.

Things I will bring on the 14th include: Sheets, towels, laundry supplies, a large amount of clothing/shoes (i’ll just bum it for a week, I suppose) and a few decorations for my room, my bookshelf/textsbooks, and school supplies.

I somehow managed to get a room on the top floor of the largest dorm hall on campus, so the 21st will be my everyday things, bathroom stuff, and whatever I forgot on the 14th. Preferably as little as possible. I’m aiming for only one trip up the elevator.

I feel so blah! It’s the second week of August (I leave in 2 more weeks) and I’ve still have done nothing for college; I haven’t bought any school supplies/clothes/dorm stuff, I haven’t shipped my things to my school, I haven’t even bought my ticket to get to my college yet! Blah!

I really have to get on the ball. -.-

I move in on the 25th too. I have most of my stuff already but i still need to get a mini fridge, desk chair and this thing that goes on your desk to give you more space.

I’ll probably start packing around the 16th just so i don’t forget all the small things. I also have a check list with all the things that i need to take with me, and i keep adding more things to the list as they come to mind. I’m going to sit down and check everything of the list the day before i move in to make sure i didn’t forget to pack something.
