Paid internships overseas?

How would you all suggest going about trying to find a paid internship overseas?
Are such positions common? And how would the pay compare to similar jobs in the United States?

Thanks for any help

I have the same question, particularly pertaining to Australia. Through simple google searches I have only found web sites that will match you to an UNPAID internship in Australia and then they charge you an ~$1,500 fee, absolutely insane!!

I am interested in countries that speak either German, Italian, or French. Any suggestions?

@jack - “overseas” is quite a lot of places. I’m German, most internships here are paid but they also expect very good credentials and work ethic for a low wage. You have to decide what country first.

@CoolC - you will have a hard time to find a paid internship in Australia. If you want to earn money (to survive, not to save) and experience in Oz, do what everyone else does and get a Travel-and-Work visa for a year and do fruit picking and other harvesting jobs. It won’t give you business experience of course.

@ China - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Italy. All those offer your languages and internships - but you will learn quickly that you need to be already trained in something or have a university degree and you will earn minimum wage.

Internships aren’t jobs, you are not meant to be able to live off of them. If you guys want to earn experience in a foreign country, be prepared to get a real job or to have the money up front.

Cheers!
