<p>I'm an interantional student from Australia so once I start it will be hard to change programs.
I was accepted to SVA, Pratt and Parsons and I am wondering which program to choose for painting. What is important to me is if any of the schools have a focus on how the artists becoming professionals in NY (i.e.: getting into galleries and trying to earn a living from their art). </p>
<p>I like SVA from what I read on their web site but I can't see much (independant) info about the school, so it makes me wonder... is it a well recognized school? </p>
<p>Any information would help, Im transferring my liberal art credits from UNLV so Ill just be taking studio classes.</p>
<p>SVA is a very well recognized school. However I hear that their foundational dept. is not as extensive as Pratts or Parsons. They expect you to know a good deal before you come. All 3 schools are great, I would just do research on what courses they offer and assess their individual strengths to make your decision. SVA is very well respected but they are mostly known for their digital media, illustration, and cartooning programs. I don't know much about their fine arts or painting. Parsons is mostly known for fashion. Pratt is more of a mixed bag, imho.</p>
<p>Thanks that's a help. I was starting to think that SVA just had a cool website and thats it (lol). Do you know if SVA has companies come and hire their students or offer them internships? Both Pratt and Parsons seem to talk about that on their site but i got nothing out of the SVA web site on internships...</p>
<p>The students I talked to at SVA said they had no problem scoring internships and were very confident in their ability to get a job after graduation. SVA has a very good career development department and industry connections. And I'm sure there's plenty of internships to be had in NYC :)</p>
