Pakistani thread

yeah it is National University of Singapore.
Here is the admissions site- you have to look for category D admissions.

Let me explain.
Unfortunately or fortunately there is no human factor involved...
The admission is primarily merit based.

One way is to give your A levels, get good grades and then apply.
But you will be losing an year unless you give your A levels in November.

The shortcut is SAT1 and three SAT2s in one sitting....
The university has not updated its requirement according to the new SAT.
Even if you dont have stellar O level grades, like got a load of unlucky Bs together with 4-5As even then you have a chance if your Writing scores are good, and SAT1 scores are above average.

But if you apply after A levels you must have 3-4 As atleast.

The presentation part only comes somehow when you are considered for scholarship whose criteria is getting higher and higher each year....u can only b sure if you have 5 As in Alevels.....Still financing is not usually much of a concern as interest free loans are easily available that you can repay later.

There is one condition with scholarships and subsidized fees, you are required to work for a Singapore based company for three years( work only...no other conditions...you will be getting the pay for work).
You can see the details on the website http://nus.edu.sg
You can talk to your senior Aftab Khaliq who came here and left for he got admitted into Oxford with full scholarship and a decent allowance!
For the US unis u can also consult your former headgirl...off to harvard! maybe sneaking somewhere around here ....( she doesnt post :( here..only reads...)

who are you by the way, i mean u r from BMI right? KOS?
and Aftab Khaliq left for Oxford????!!!!wow
and i got 9 A s in O levels

I did my Olevels from crescent and A levels from Aitchison.
Olevels 11 As A levels 1 A
Hows dat
??

Well..... ur o-levels seemed soooooo cool
but ur a-levels---they dont seem to match up with ur o's
maybe i'm wrong but......
hey
ur fine

well they do match, only one less.. ;)
Yeah, its a pity that i had high dreams but didnt do what was my prime responsibilty---study, so got Bs in all the major subjects...well i have always been giving surprises to people...Olevels was remarkable, and A levels...unbelievable.....now as a freshman....i have started feeling like i felt in my olevel days after i got back to my desk following a two year gap ....hope i am able to remain consisitent now....previously it was a question of simply a college....but now my career rests upon it...and in a way the course my life will take...
Never try to experience how it really happens...Learn a lesson...and get back to study!

hey cres
ur advice on NUS is so cool
and by the way,
which university are you attending?

Actually, I too am frOm Aitchison college
(lol) (hehehehehe)
I need advice on admissions
plz plz help me cos theyre driving me mad

I've got the following grades in O-levels:
-8 A's (Math, Add Math, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Studies, English, Accounting, Business Studies)
-2 B's ( Pak Studies and Urdu!!!!!!)
-1 D (Islamiyat) because of TERRIBLE timing mistakes on the exam

I've also done two SAT Subject Tests
- Physics (740) cos I didnt get time to study properly
-World History (800)
I'm doing three Subject Tests this November, i.e. Physics(again!!This time inshallah an 800), Math and Chemistry
I'll get 770 or above on each (Inshallah)

I'm registered for the New SAT 1 this October, where I can expect to get 2150+ at the very least, 2200+ is what I'm aiming for

In my first year of A-levels (i.e. HSC-1), I got the following grades:
Half-Yearly Physics B Annual Physics B
Chemistry B Chem D (OMG!!)
Math A Math C (OMG!!)
GP B GP A
History B History A (OMG!!, with
a distiction)

What are my chances at a cool liberal arts school in the US (Williams, Middlebury, Reed, Swarthmore, etc.) or a good engineering school (not MIT,ofcourse!!!!!)? Where shud I apply? And what about NUS? If I get 4 or 5 A's in the HSC-2 Half-Yearly and 5 A's in the Final A-levels, can I get to NUS?

hey jaw007!
Where r u applying?
And what school are u? I guess ur in LGS, BUT, its just conjecture (SAT vocabulary,YEHHH)
Oh, and ur headgirl. OMG!

Foemer head girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I think I've met her.
Her name?
Let me guess...........................

This is so funny! I received it in junk-mail. I wonder if the former headgirl (I remebered her name, btw) agrees with this:

I got into Harvard Business School with this "accidental discovery"... now it's your turn...
"How an $8 per Hour UPS Package Handler Got Accepted into Harvard Business School... Despite... Mediocre Grades and a Very Average Background!"
Only about 10% of all applicants get accepted to Harvard Business School. And until recently all but the top 20% of those accepted got in without an interview.

However, this average guy with a very average background got in... and... got in without an interview. (In fact, he was in the top 2% of all applicants.)

Here's how he did, and how you can do it too...

Dear Friend,

Is there one secret, above all else, that ensures you'll have a fighting chance, even an unfair advantage , in getting into Harvard Business School?

The answer is a resounding... YES! And I'm about to reveal it to you.

Here's what this is all about:

My name is Ryan Patterson and what I am about to reveal to you is THE SECRET to getting into Harvard Business School and turbo-charging your career FOREVER.

It's a story about the SECRET FORMULA a former UPS package handler with mediocre grades and an average background used to get into Harvard Business School... shocking his friends in the process.

This applicant did not go to an Ivy League school. He did not work for a major investment bank. He did not work for a major consulting firm.

He had a 2.9 GPA when he attended Idaho State University and started off his career as a $8/hour UPS package handler .

I did say he seemed average didn't I?

At the time, this applicant was not very familiar with Harvard Business School.

Yet, by sheer dumb luck he ended up following the same proven principles and strategies used by hundreds of other successful Harvard Business School applicants...

Here is this guy's website:
http://www.howtogetintohbs.com/start.php

So, see y'all in Harvard Business School!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Dont get distracted by such stuff, there are few cases like this every year, few means you can count them on your fingers...amongs 15-20000 applicants...even for undergrad admissions, these guys are looking for people who can make the best out of the opportunities available for them, you definitely need a positive approach..this guy being talked abt had something that he expressed in the essay that genuinely appealed to the adcom..you never know what they appreciate in you...that trajectory things somewha eists...but its so commin that the admission guys can tell with experience what s the value of your words, and if they are intrested in you, then you will be called upon for an interview, imagine bluffing with Harvard/Yale/Camridge?princeton Lawyers??? thats no joke! n mostly old aitchisonians will be seeing you there....in LHR at least..

T-80....concentrate on your studies now when the new year begins....or you can imagine what will be going for your midterms...your transcript is not going to change....so you really have your last chance...maybe now you can think of 5As in halfyearly's and finals....but you know you need to work hard......i can say from experience....that you will be lagging behind lost in admissions stuff...and SAts.....leaving your studies for the end....i can bet!....so better take it as a challenge!
among the colleges you have named...
Williams, can be tried.....total luck
Middlebury, they love waitlistimg people....
Reed, maybe.....yes....depends upon finances...
Swarthmore....this is one of the liberal arts college i loved most..their engineering liberal arts program is interesting....not any particular engineering but loads of hardwork and fun! if you really like this college, then you need a real good sat score 2250 or so.....but it wont matter....unless you prove to this choosy college that you are interested enough in them :)

What do you plan to major in? engineering economics, bsiness, have a focussed mind...make your priorities....and how much can you afford per annum?

You will be able to make it to NUS if you got goood enough SAT scores/...( see how many of your seniors got rejected......for low SATs( writing-good enuff!!)) try to get 780+ in phy, math....you got tough competetion among your classmates...Best of Luck!

thnx alot cres. Thanks a lot.
no, im not lagging behind, not lost, just trying to take stuff together
infact, i suppose i did a lot of the course work for the half-yearly in the summer holidays, WITHOUT extra tuitions, lol
As for the Harvard thingy, yeah, I agree--- I just thought this guy is kind of funny:asking for $99 for his "info". lol lol
As for majors, I like engineering but I dont mind a liberal arts situation, since its supposed to be relatively easier to get aid there (I REALLY NEED IT). Infact, I like the whole liberal arts concept. But I guess engineering is what I'll EVENTUALLY do. So, if I goto a liberal arts college, I'll probably do science courses ("pre-engineering")

As for NUS, I don't exactly get what ur saying. Like.....do u mean that if I get low SAT 1 scores, then I need to get 780= in SAT 2's , or r u saying that I need SAT 2's 780+ anyway, regardless of SAT 1 scores?
as for how much i can afford per annum, well...if I stretch things a bit.... I can do $10000 at the most, so u can imagine that I need aid. Like lots of class-fellows.
by the way.......just for my information,
U say I'll have "tough competition from classmates"---does that mean u know any of them? I mean, what batch are u?
But anyway, thanks a lot. U rock, not the T-80 tank!

How many and which SAT II tests r required for NUS Engg Dept?
Plz tell me about the avg. SAT scores... Well, I m from India (Please dont mind)

We do NOT "mind" if u r from India, ronty!!!!!! Why wud we anyway?

Let's wait for cres to answer u. ;)
He's the....ahem.....specialist here as far as NUS is concerned.

by the way, cres.
What programs at NUS r really strong? As in... engineering business....?

yo cres! :)

welcome back buddy! :)

;)

T-Rox- i am not a headgirl., i cant be iam a boy!!!
Anyway, i ve got better grades than u(just for the sake of fighting, but with no malice) I am still in junior year at Beaconhouse. I had the oppotunity to go in to KGS and Aithison but i preferrewd frirnds....
Your SATs are marvellous (have any advice for me???)

Cres- do you have any contact of Aftab Khaliq??? And i want to know who u are or at least where u are from....
someone reffered me to ask u and perfectdark fort advice and help, i hope u will do so.
