Paper Based Application

It looks as if candidates for the class of 2012 will still use the paper based application, but as in past years will be able to track their application online using their login and password.

Wait come again. "...will be able to track their application"

You mean we can update our stuff on the candidate login? What else will it let us do?

You can update personal information on the site, and track the information that WP has received and the status of your application. You cannot update other information directly.

You'll also be able to e-mail your rep in the Admissions office directly through the candidate website.

Any idea what happened? Last April, Admissions was claiming the online application would take effect for the Class of 2012.

Mister Sinister: If you completed the pre-candidate questionairre you should have received a letter with instructions to sign onto the candidate website. You should be able to sign-on even now and take a look.

Yes, the online application was meant to be up and running for the class of 2012, but apparantly it is not going to happen this year. It is a complex system and I'm sure they want it to be as glitch free as possible before they go online. When they do go paperless, everything will be done online including teacher recommendations, CFA reporting etc. so there are lots of issues to work out. I know they have put a lot of effort into designing the system.

Why doesn't USMA just use the same software used on the USNA or USAFA online applications?

That's a bit of a rhetorical question, but it would be nice if all of the academies got together and made a common application.

USMA designed their own system after much research - they did look at the other academy software during their research.

Probably just like the private sector......everyone wants to use a common system as long as the one they are currently using gets chosen !!!

I think it was more a matter of perfecting the security issues. I know that signature verification for parties submitting information was a concern. They are also integrating their entire system so that the field force and nomination sources will have more access. There were lots of issues to consider. I am not famililiar with the other academy systems so I can't compare, but I don't think a common application system was ever the agenda.
