My son filled out his West Point preliminary application in mid June. Since that time his status on the admission website has been "Initial Review Pending" or something close to it.

As I understand it, USMA is still using a paper application and accepted candidates are to receive the application forms in the U.S. mail.

Have these applications been mailed out yet?

If you have received your full application - when did you receive it?

September is right around the corner and nothing has changed since late June.

It had been my undertanding that the applications would be mailed out mid to late August. We are also in wait mode. I am not aware of anyone who has received an application at this point... but I have been wrong before! Just wanted to assure you that there ARE others wondering and checking the mailbox, too!

I hope not. I my preliminary app. was accepted and the acceptance letter was postmarked July 18, 2006. They said that they would send the acctual app. shortly, and I didn't take that to mean a month. I've been a little worried too!

Hey everyone- Yeah I sent in my Pre-candidate questionnair or preliminary app at the end of June and have been waiting on my status... on the website it says "initial review pending". I hope that everyone works out, and sometime early september I will recieve something in the mail!! I didn't know that they will be sent out August 28.

I got my application today! It was fed-exed and someone over 21 needed to sign for it, and since my parents weren't home when they came, we had to go pick it up 15 minutes away, but I didn't care. I'm glad to finally have it in my hands! There are 3 teacher evaluations required, but what about a formal letter of recommendation? Are those not needed at all? And if not, should I send 1 or 2 or 3 in anyway?

are the teacher evals the same as a letter of recommendation? or are they a questioin and answer form? and what is difference between hs semester transcripts and secondary school transcripts I thought 2ndary shcool was same as hs?

i think that mine must have come today because i got back from xc practice and there was a fedex note on the door saying no one was there to sign for a package and they'd come back tomorrow...
umm can you really not take it unless someone over 21 signs for it?? because my parents won't be home then...and i don't know if they would be willing to sign for it if they knew what it was.
does fedex really take the over 21 thing seriously? will they card me, or just let it slide?

Did you all receive LOA's?? I wonder if kidswho got LOA's are getting their packets first. My duaghter's candidate login is updated but no appication yet. That was exciting for her to see after waiting all summer..............!
I have to say requiring an over 21 signature is ridiculous.

My son finally received his packet from the USMA yesterday and it is missing the dang forms! He received the instruction booklet and envelopes but no forms!

He'll have to contact the USMA to get another packet sent out. Unless someone knows of a way to get them off the website.

Q: In the meantime, can anyone tell him what the essay questions of form 5-520 are? He would like to get working on them.

Sigh! Things are not getting off to a good start.

ChessDad, the essay questions are:
1. In the space below, explain why you want to attend the United States Military Academy and serve on active duty as an Army officer.
2. What are the most important qualities in becoming a successful USMA cadet and a successful Army officer?
3. West Point and the Army are committed to the idea that respcet for others and an understanding of diversity are important leadship [sic] traits. Why will you be successful in working with leaders, peers, and subordinates of a gender, color, ethnicity, and/or religion different from your own?
