What notebook/s do you use for taking notes? I want something that will weather well against time. I use black .05 G2 pens, so it's necessary that the paper be sufficiently thick.

i used to use the spiral notebooks, but i found that the spirals always deformed and were annoying to get back into shape so that i could actually open my notebook. now i use black marble notebooks. the covers are hard so the notebooks dont damage easily and there are no spirals to worry about.

I just go with the FiveStar notebooks. Sometimes I buy the 3/5 ones, with the section splitters (I can't remember what it's called at the moment) and when I'm done with one class, the next semester I rip out the notes and keep using the notebook. I used one notebook for four consecutive semesters, and ran out of pages only after this last semester (and that was just the single notebook).

red06, the old school notebooks are soo small. I could fill out five of those for one class before midterms. However, is your old school notebook wide ruled? I have not seen a college ruled old school notebook in ages.

sonar, there are a lot of different legal pads which have thick paper. You know, in the event you would like to save a buck or two:)

I always buy notebooks with the spirals on the top because I'm left handed and since you fold the pages over, they take up less space than those other notebooks that are lefty-friendly. College rule is a must--my handwriting is too small to waste on wide-rule.

merlinjones, i actually find the smallness of the book and the largeness of the ruling to be a plus. the smallness of the book allows me to keep other things on my desk without feeling cramped, and the large ruling allows me to write largely and legibly so that when i try to read my notes later, i actually can read them lol. (one more post to becoming a senior member!)

I usually use college-ruled notebooks. My high school had some they sold in the bookstore with the school insignia on them that I always used. But I'm usually happy with any spiral notebook, I fill them up pretty quickly anyway, so I'm not too picky. If you want thicker paper, though, Imperial Notebooks makes a vertical spiral notebook with very thick paper in it.

Gleech, why can we not speak of paper notebooks? All of us who study hard are stuck using paper notebooks all the gosh darned time. Why not comparison shop for paper notebooks? You might learn a thing or two and even save some money:)

Furthermore, this thread is not half as neurotic as the "How much do you spend on school supplies?" thread in High School Life.

i definitely comparison shop for notebooks!!
i hate it when my notebooks have wide ruling, are an ugly color, or the sprial gets deformed. i wind up having to throw them out and start allllll over again copying my notes to a whole new nbook. maybe i'm neurotic but it WORKS!

kjane, I took advantage of that deal too! Normally I don't like to buy school supplies until the last minute, but it was too good to walk away from. I like college-rule spiral notebooks with easily turned pages and wire that isn't going to come apart.

I'm getting 5 subject notebooks for all of my classes.

Last summer I took a 3 week summer class and filled up 2 1/2 sections of one of those notebooks. I'm a crazy notetaker and I have a very specific pattern that takes up a ton of space, plus I write diagrams in the margins and glue in any handouts I get. I hate having to switch between notebooks for one class, so getting a huge one is just the best bet.

for taking notes in class I use the "classified colors" side spiral notebooks.
they're awesome because I can color code each class w/ a different notebook color. really helped end all confusion when I would come home from work and have time to just grab a notebook and run.

If I wanted to write the notes out again in a bigger notebook, I'd use the "genesis" single subject. both are very durable and both come in different colors, so if you wanna color code these are my top picks.

oh and look into moleskines as well, they are great for jotting down ideas and inspirations.

I'm super picky about the paper I use, so I usually switch notebooks around the first couple weeks of the semester until I find one with paper I like. I don't know why I care so much but I really prefer writing on a particular type of paper with a particular type of pen- and since I'm obsessively neat about what I write and how I organize my notes, I guess I get neurotic about the notebooks, too.

Haha, well, I prefer to use legal pads only for scratch work; my legal pads get easily mangled! Also, the blueline notebooks here are 1/2 the price listed on that website; I'm not sure why they're so expensive there.

I just go with the FiveStar notebooks.

I am not a fan of the multi-subject notebooks. It's a hassle for me, because I easily get unorganized, and the multi-subjects definitely don't help that situation

Exactly!

I don't use any notebooks! Typically I bring a legal pad so I can rip the paper off. It's easier to spread out when you're looking at it. Plus you always get "wide ruled" when you use a legal pad so there's no worry of buying the wrong type.

I'm picky about the paper I use too. It's got to be recycled. Ampad is my brand of choice, but as long as it's white recycled paper anything will do.

Ugh...wide ruled paper makes me shudder. I actually do project notes (like for papers and things) in those blue exam notebooks. Usually one project takes one big notebook but then it's all separated out- I love these stupid, cheap notebooks. Unfortunately they're not really durable or large enough to be my full time notebooks.
