My scores were low compared to that of the University of Pittsburgh average. Does having two parents that graduated from Pitt help the chances a lot?

My high school stats are: 3.62 unweighted GPA. Senoir year- 1 AP Class (AP Calc)
SATs- Math & Reading 1160 (1680 total). Lot of extracurricular and ranked 25th out of 209. Anyway i was just wondering if my chances got a lot better since i had two parents graduate from Pitt... I had my guidance office send my mid-year grades last week. Hopefully i hear soon.

I think that you aren’t getting responses because there are not too many alums on here (or legacies). Sorry–no idea.

okay since that question is hard to answer can ya just give me my chances of getting in with those numbers?

It would help somewhat, but not as much as you are hoping it will. You will have to have written amazing essays and have superb reccomendations, because your SAT scores are also lacking since your critical reading and math score combined make up the lowest average for pitt. (the average scores for critical reading are 570-680; math is 590-680. Writing: 560-660)
Your gpa is also on the lower side of their standards so hopefully you put a lot of thought and time into your application and essay, Good luck.

i think my essay was pretty good… :)

I think your stats are on the lower side (not enough APs, SAT), but if your EC’s are good, it should balance that out. Also, a parent alumni will definitely help, even if they don’t weigh much on that in terms of acceptance. Also, being in state might help.

Best of luck!
