Son is transferring from public high school to BS as a junior. He’s had some social difficulties at school in the past so we are most concerned with finding a BS that has a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. Right now as a late applicant, his choices look like they could turn out to be the Hun School, Berkshire, Pomfret and possibly Suffield (he’s wait-listed there). Would love input about any of those schools!
I am only semi-familiar with these schools, but based on what I know…I think I would choose Berkshire. Great campus, stunning new science center, and from what parents on the forum report, an overall solid choice.
I regret not applying to Berkshire. My goodness, it is gorgeous.
Thank you - this input is very helpful!
I can’t speak to the other 3 schools, but my daughter is attending Hun next year. Very impressed by the leadership team - new Headmaster, Dr. of Admissions and Head of Upper School in last 5 or so years. Very forward thinking yet grounded. They’ve recently launched some new academic programs and just finished construction on a beautiful new Global Commons building. We are excited for the next four years! Good luck with the decision!
My daughter attends Pomfret, and I have to say with 5 kids in 5 different schools, I am pretty critical. I can’t say enough good things about Pomfret. It is a family environment !!! So incredibly inviting and nurturing. An abundance of peer support and adult guidance. The school does an incredible job of offering weekend activities My daughter has only come home when it was mandatory. Please feel free to ask me anything
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are visiting Pomfret next week and I’m eager to see what my son thinks. We got the impression from their materials that it is a warm and nurturing place, but it’s always hard to know until you visit. I’m glad to hear your daughter is having such a positive experience. If we have more questions after our visit, I may contact you again - thanks!
@OhBoyMom I will be at revisit day. I volunteered to be available to answer questions to guests
