<p>I think a candid discussion with your daughter is in order. Is college an easily affordable item in your household? Will you as her parent(s) be able to support her post-graduation too, because the likelihood of a decent dance-related job position is unlikely. Has she researched the employment opportunities and career paths for dance majors? Has she noticed that many professional dancers have entered dance companies’ schools rather than enrolled in college? Does she have a “2nd major/minor” in mind, whether related to dance (pre-PT, for instance) or not?</p>
<p>A friend was a dance major at Conn College, and as she’s often noted, was utterly unprepared for any alternate career path upon graduation, and found herself a minimum-wage daycare worker for several years. She’s now a nurse-practioner, after years of supplemental education.</p>
