Hey Guys,

My dad was an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania for 13 years. Will this give me any advantage?

It might. If he’s not currently there however, it might be negligible.

Assistant professor for 13 years? Usually it’s up or out after 7. Was he a full-time faculty member or maybe an affiliated faculty member in a professional school?

Even if it doesn’t give you faculty-staff benefits now, it already has given you a huge advantage. You know Penn. You know a lot of people at Penn, you speak the language of Penn and academia, and you’ve been raised with a core belief in education. Spend a few hours on SEPTA (in the city), listening to other passengers, and you’ll realize what you do have.
