Parents are not eligible for FAFSA Pin, PLUS Loans

Hello,
I'm currently an undergrad student and am planning to study abroad for summer term. My financial aid package for summer included a scholarship, sub/unsub loans, and a PLUS loan which combined to cover the total cost of the program. However, because my parents are not US citizens and have no SSN, they cannot get a pin or access the PLUS loan application. Because I am a citizen, I am eligible to get my sub/unsub loan max raised to that of an independent student but for me to get the loan max raised, according to the FinAid counselors at my school, my parents have to apply for the PLUS loan and be rejected in order for them to be able to do so.

I have my parents tax forms available and was wondering if anyone knows any way around getting a PLUS loan rejection in order to get my loan maxes raised.

Any information would be of great help!!

You need to go to your college with this information. Another recent thread was started about just this issue. It is possible that your financial aid office will be able deal with this. Essentially what was said on the other thread…not being eligible because of citizenship might get you that additional Direct Loan money. You need to head to the financial aid office at your school ASAP to ask.
