Last year I applied and received the College Prep Scholar. This year, I am applying for the NCM. For my CPS application, I entered a value for the parents' checking/savings account that was an overestimation of the actual amount. The difference is a big one (about 7K), and I'm worried that QB will be suspicious or that they'll check.

Should I be worried? Will they care?

No, the discrepancy will not be a problem for you in terms of the QB NCM application. Money can be spent and earned, account balances change and 7K is really not a lot TBH. Once you are actually in the college application process (whether through Questbridge or not) you will have to fill out the CSS, then the FAFSA with IDOC verification of all your statements of income and assets. Eventually everything will be verified, so just do your best to be as accurate as possible now.

@nynightowl I’m definitely going to report all the right information for my NCM. What I’m worried about is that QB will pull up my College Prep application and compare the information, see the discrepancy, and be suspicious. I emailed QB with my question and am waiting for a response. Should I be freaking out? I know that with an actual college app, everything will be verified but will the mistake cause me to lose my chances and/or raise suspicion?

Again, no. What would they be suspicious of? Your family actually has LESS money then you previsoulsy reported but 7K is not enough to be a meaningful amount in any case. 70K would be another story. I can’t quite figure out what you’re worried about. Even if someone noticed the discrepancy, they would assume that your family had spent that money between last spring and this summer. 7K is about the price of a very cheap used car, or a hospital stay, a reasonable expenditure. You need to drop this and worry about real things like getting your essays done!!!
