Parents of juniors - Class of 2012 - we had a thread, no?

Does anyone remember what our thread was called? You know I'm right, the drums are starting to roll for us....

College visits anyone?

Mwuahahahahaha.

I distinctly remember being 8 1/2 months pregnant with my third child in five years. I kept thinking "I can't go through labor again!" I am now having similar sentiments towards the college admissions process. I just don't feel up to doing this again. But here we go class of 2012!!!!!!!!

Oh my, that was exactly my reaction! I'm not ready! Four years was not enough time for the memories to fade (and I'm just looking at two within four years).

I'm actually getting pretty excited about it! Off to freezing northeast next week after a big birthday party this weekend. Can't wait to see the reaction to real winter. Please, no global warming in Massachusetts in February!

Was the thread title the one about Embarking on the Perilous Road?

For this one, location means everything, which ought to make things in one way easier, in other ways more picky. She has zero safeties so far. That part does not look good. Will not consider colleges she finds beneath her. Terrific; off to a great start.

Just checking to see who is next in the go round and I come across this. I'm still chuckling, epiphany. I can hear you saying the words.

I'm going to be an honorary parent this round -- my not-so-little brother is currently a junior. :)

His current thoughts toward college appear to be based on two factors: 1) whether the school has a lacrosse team, and 2) how cool my fiance will think the school is. We've got a little bit of work to do.

Hello! Many of the usual suspects:) Who knew?

S and I will be college-tripping in April. Less East than D, more South...

I'm not in. I was just snoopin' around. Looking at the next victims. ;)

I'm part of this crowd--our baby is a junior! cookiemom~I distinctly remember telling my husband while I was in labor for the 3rd time in 4 1/2 years "I keep forgetting about this part--we're not doing this again!!!!" And now we're about to go looking at a few colleges for him!! At least he completely understands the process, and has already seen quite a few schools while tagging along on some of the visits we made with his 2 older sibs!! :)

Epiphany--we should cross-fertilize ours perhaps. One of mine has a list of 32--actually a great blend of reaches, matches, and safeties. But they are all over the place and that is an awful lot of traveling to narrow the list!
Northeast now, NY last year, southern California in April, Pennsylvania in May, the south in the summer, and the favorites perhaps again in the fall. Oh yes, and then there is Chicago for one......many many JetBlue and hotel points on my horizon I think.

Count us in, too. We set out for S's first set of visits in two weeks. Hope this "decider" is more decisive than the last one: With a single exception, Kid No. 1 never met a campus she didn't like.

First SATs down, my daughter is just starting to become interested. We have been down this road with our son. He was only interested in one school and was accepted ed, so totally different experience. She has decided on her career path so that is a big plus. In March, we will visit two schools, possibly more. We will do more visits during the summer.

We have a meticulously planned April trip in the works to PA and Virginia with d #3. I hope my trip planning skills have improved from last time around, when I misread the distance between Nashville and Durham by 100 miles and spent almost 200 bucks for a hotel room we spent 7 hours in ...

We're gearing up for the process too. My S has already been told by a friend, on hearing where his sister goes, "Gee, you've got some big shoes to fill!" Not helpful.

We did some visiting last summer and probably won't have time till this coming summer. Somehow our spring break visits just never materialize. In the meantime, we'll peruse colleges' websites and all of those emails and catalogs he's receiving thanks to the box he checked when he took the PSAT.

Wow, I'm waxing nostalgic to where I was this time last year....now I'm finishing up the last of the FA paperwork, and photoing our tax returns...how I remember some of you mentioning these lovely activities 12 months ago. It would be nice at this point to know exactly where I'll be sending a check in the fall, though.

All of you PA travelers, give me a wave as you drive down the turnpike...

Add me to the list of first time initiates. We looked at a couple schools in MA and CA last summer on family vacations, and DH and DS went to Chicago in Jan. Looks like a midwest swing over Spring Break.

SAT is happening in March, three more APs and an SAT-II in May, still one more SAT-II to self-study. The ECs/awards are blossoming wonderfully, but the grades are taking a hit. Agh!

Cur is just coming to gloat! ;)

Anyone who wants to be an HONORARY member of the class of 21012 is welcome. We have Guru status, Wise Elder status, and Glad I'm Not You status to offer.

And SATs are more complex this time around. I was just informed last time of when D would do what. But I guess the length of the new format means you have to pay more attention to which SATIIs, which APs, etc. will need to be taken this spring, which means that yes, Aluson too will be taking the SATs in March.

I was not on cc last time around until after EA decisions. This will be different....At least we now understand the concept of a balanced list:).

Count me in...a mess that is. S did reasonably well fresh. and soph. years but grades have tanked as a jr. Takes SAT in March. We may be doing the Community College tour instead of the ones I had planned. S1 was so much easier. I'm glad this is it for me!

Last year, we had a "Class of 2011 Official Thread" (thanks to lderochi). Someone should start one for the class of 2012 (I'd start it but my child isn't a "12-er.") We introduced ourselves by listing the following about us/our junior student:

Screen name
Is your Junior male or female
Home state
Preferred geographic location for college
Any specific things looking for in a college (large, small, urban, etc
Child's possible academic interests
Schools currently on child's list of possibilities
Schools we've visited (whether or not child is still interested in going there)
Senior Year Courseload (tentative)
Study Plans for SAT/ACT
EC's of Note
