mom in vir. --nice that he was "seen" at the movies with you! My S often takes pictures of the moon or the sunset...but no talking allowed or aloud. You have a sweet one.

Woohoo - DS hit send on the final two applications he's been dragging his feet on. Now the waiting begins...what WILL I nag about now?? ;)

As soon as Son hears from the final school, it will be time to make the next spreadsheet - total cost, financial aid offered, additional scholarships to apply for and deadlines, possible music audition dates, possible dates for second visits, etc. He's been accepted to 7 schools already, so I sort of feel like we're back to square one.

As for post-acceptance love, someone from St. Edwards sent a very nice handwritten note a few weeks ago. Stephen F. Austin sends so much mail it's as if he has already enrolled. Nothing from anyone else. Glad Son hasn't received any phone calls - he becomes monosyllabic when he's surprised on the phone.

Gotta like that love missypie! D has had a Select Application deadline extended by one school twice already...that one will finally be on its way tonight. Feels good to be wanted, but I wonder if the schools are extending since they are afraid apps will be down in the tough times (students not applying in favor of state schools, etc..)

cpeltz- you can come and nag my D!! Congrats that S finished apps.

theorymom: Neither of my applicants has decided. They are both awaiting additional RD decisions and an EA that won't come out until next month. My only concern about Carroll is the cost of traveling in and out and DH is worried that with all those super cold days forcing kids indoors when our Ds have always been active outdoor types. Do you check out their webcam??

oregon101 nope I am Northern California born and bred but I love the snow. The Montana dry cold (we are hoping) will be easier to take than the midwestern wet cold because the days usually have some sunshine even when bitter. The offered merit money makes Carroll especially attractive so the girls are going to be visiting this winter to get an idea of how cold it really is.

HMW: What a lovely son you are raising that he gets even more excited for his buddy! S2 I presume is not so excited that S1 will be going away in the fall.

congrats cpeltz!

cpeltz--sigh of relief all is completed right

historymom--congrats to your daughters are they hoping to go the same school? just curious...

my daughter got her UNCA acceptance Saturday---she was so pleasedand excited

Congratulations, lindz! Western North Carolina is one of my favorite places.

Oy Historymom, I spaced you had TWO going through this.
We may be visiting Carroll this winter as well, we'll take our skis LOL
I was concerned about the travel issues as well, but it has to be easier and cheaper than sending someone to MIT -- egad!
Looks to me like most of the kids there are pretty active types. Do your girls like to ski?
We think we will hear from a college or two today maybe.

D's first acceptance came today: accepted to University of Chicago. Hooray for EA! As other kids were getting acceptances in ED/EA rounds, she was so glad she'd sent something in early, too, and that her first reply from a college was positive. She has one other EA school, and we're hoping to hear this week; all the rest RD. It sure feels good to have a positive response, especially since Chicago's application was the hardest one she did. Many rewrites and tears accompanied that "special" Chicago essay....

Congrats, Zetesis to you D on getting into such a highly regarded school!

lindz126, you must be thrilled for your D, I'd love to spend a lot more than 4 years in Asheville.

We still have a long wait ahead of us, but for now, the pressure is off. Whew! Looks like all the cajoling, worrying, research, prodding, nagging are paying off for the kids.

Thanks, historymom!

lindz and zetesis: Congratulaions! Yeeehah!

Thanks to all! She's pretty thrilled, and we're proud of her. I'm not even sure it's her first choice, but just getting in somewhere has her so excited. It's fun to see her reap the rewards of hard work in HS and on that app.

D got accepted to her first choice school. Acceptance came today. She is so excited. She has worked so hard and really only liked the one school. So happy for her!!

Forgot to mention that I'm so happy that we are DONE!! Won't have to bug her over break to get the remainder of the apps in. I don't typically say much about it and let her do it on her timeline but I really needed it to be done.

^^^^^
I am insanely jealous!

But thrilled for you nonetheless. Done AND first choice. What could be better?

D accepted ED today! No more apps, essays, nagging.... :)

Sweet moment: at D's request, I took the envelope over to school as soon as it arrived so she could share the news with her GC. He happened to be meeting with the other GCs in the district, including those who'd known D since she was in 5th grade. It was wonderful to celebrate with them all.

Yeah and congratulations for all of you and your children!

PRJ--very nice story. Having been in education many years ago I know that wiould have been a delightful moment.

Yay! My son found out this evening that he was accepted to his first choice ED school -- Washington University in St. Louis! He's so excited, but not quite in the mood to study for his test tomorrow. No more essays, no more nagging (well, except about the test)....

Congrats to others with good news; hang in there to the others -- my older son was rejected to his SCEA school a few years ago and ended up getting into 6/7 other schools he applied to (including 5 merit aid offers), so if your child was rejected or deferred, there's good news around the corner.

Congrats to all those receiving hoped-for news.
