NM, many congrats to your daughter, both for her achievement and her humility!

NorthMinn!!!!!!!!!! Gotta love those quiet girls! congratulations. No more mimosas as it is after 5:00 in Minn. Its a Dom for you served in a flute w/ a strawberry!

I have been weepy all evening and you just made me cry again! Thank you so much! She never said a word to any of her friends or teammates. I just want her to be a woman with confidence. Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer!
H and I are having a real glass of wine. Could contribute to my weepiness!!! ;)

Oh NorthMinnesota--those are the moments we do all of this for! Congrats and a toast!

Congratulations to your daughter, NorthMinn - I know you're just busting with pride!

<<yea for="" d!="" now="" if="" she="" could="" just="" bump="" up="" her="" act="" score="" by="" 2="" composite="" points,="" she'll="" get="" an="" oos="" tuition="" waiver!="" any="" suggestions?="" sylvan="" learning="" center?="" has="" taken="" sat="" prep="" courses="" and="" that="" didn't="" seem="" to="" help.="">>
I thought I read somewere that if you re-take the test you do better the next time around. I can't see paying the outragious price that Sylvan asks, especially for 2 composite points! What section needs attention? Just work on the areas that need work.
I can't get my S to either retake the SAT's again or try the ACT. He's tested out and that's that! LOL. It will be him with the student loans, hehe.</yea>

Nm--that's exciting news, congrats to your daughter!

SouthJerseymom--don't know if I missed that your daughter got another FL acceptance? Good for her!

Son has an honors college essay app to write that is as tortuous to get him to do as the regular app essays. He says today, though....

D got accepted to her #3 school in Florida. She was deferred at #1 to bring up her test scores and we are waiting to hear from #2 in which a decision will be made on 12/3. Both #1 and #2 were reaches. If she brings her composite score up she can receive in-state FL tuition to #3 and may even get accepted to #1. She has decided now she's going to Florida no matter what, even if she goes to #3 with the hopes of eventually transferring in to #1 or #2 down at some point during her 4 years. I'm happy for her, I thought it would be a tough year for acceptances but so far D is 4 for 4 and one deferral.

Congrats to NM!! It appears that the kids applying early this year are receiving acceptances!

Congrats 09 parents and students on acceptances! It certainly takes some stress off. I just sent deposit to Messiah to hold DD's space. Feels a little weird and a little wonderful. She's an only child and I will miss her so.

Applications were sent into several school with rolling admissions. How soon can she expect to hear? I see that some have heard already from some of the schools on her list (Drexel, ECU). When did you apply?

Also, have any of you checked your status on the websites and seen "accepted" before the letter arrived? How long did you have to wait for the letter?

Okay, 'fess up....has anyone else checked the Master List of Acceptances thread to see if anyone else's student has been accepted at a school your kid hasn't heard from?

bballfraser I think they feel competitive about everything ;) but as far as this whole college thing is going so far so good. Thanks for the well wishes!

mamagym, my D applied to ECU on 10/13 and received an admissions letter of acceptance dated 10/20. That was THE fastest turnaround I've ever seen. I think they accepted her initially but waited until the transcript came in an automatically accepted her.

D also applied to Drexel on 9/30 via the VIP application with 2 week turnaround. We received a letter about 3 weeks later that they received everything and will make a decision. We still haven't heard from them. I see some students are starting to get acceptances from Drexel.

There are only a handful of schools D applied to that we are able to check her online status: FSU, USF, UCF, FGCU, Temple, Purdue. The rest we have just sit and wait for snail mail. When D got deferred from UCF I saw it via the online status but the letter didn't arrive for a good 2 weeks or more. Same with FGCU, when D got accepted we saw it online first but the letter came a week or two later.

My daughter's aren't twins, but yeah I gotta say that sibling rivalry exists. Oldest d will be 22 soon, son in the middle, and youngest d turned 18 in August. Oldest is a government/politics major and really looked forward to voting in her first presidential election ... and then realized that little brother (umm, okay) and little sister (horrors) could also vote for the first time.

Hs d voted early and then would hand the phone over when big sister called home with the pronouncement: "It's the daughter who HASN'T voted yet." :) (And yes, it bothered big sister just like it was intended to do.)

D got a bombshell out of the blue yesterday - one of her best friends is applying ED to one of her top 3 schools, and she is afraid she would get accepted over her since we can only do RD (slightly better grades, NMSF probably NMF, and of course her family can pay the whole shot). Half of me is thinking let the chips fall where they may because there are other schools on the list as highly regarded that are already offering her merit aid, and half of me is thinking that judging from coach's interest another application from the same HS would not make a difference, it may come down to whether any merit aid is offered anyways....it kills me to see her so worried though.

NorthMinnesota: Congratulations to your d! Weep away - it's a lovely moment in both your d's and her parents' lifes.

Congratulations to all the students who have been accepted anywhere; even if it's not first choice, it's such a relief.

I still remember that my oldest d was first accepted at Tulane University. She did not end up going there, although she did like the school. Anyway, after she declined, Tulane sent her a letter wishing her success at her chosen university and also letting her know that should she change her mind her acceptance at Tulane stood. It was a nice letter and Tulane remains such a positive memory.

Missypie, of course I've been doing that! Son is hoping to hear soon from one of his top choices.

Ignatius, manners are everything. My daughter sent notes to the admission officers of two of the colleges she decided not to attend. Both responded with offers to keep her admissions offer open and one even kept her scholarship offer open!

Mamagym - It took a little over 3 weeks to hear back rolling admission. And the answer came in a big envelope. It was so hard not to open it and wait for DD to come home and open it herself!

eddieodessa, was that Drexel?

After weeks of increasingly frustrating nagging about getting her essays done, my daughter hit submit on her first app today, to her ED school. She's relieved to have it done. I promised her a week without my mentioning anything about supplements for other schools. I'm very proud of her. When you stop to think about the academic load, work, or extracurricular activities our kids are involved with, and then add college admissions stress on top of things, it's just a lot to deal with. Good luck to all!
