missypie it does sound like they had already accepted him. weird that they had him go through the formality of the interview but hey! Congrats!!

Nice for Son, but I think the school could get themselves in trouble legally. Let's say 6 students go into the room and 5 are told on the spot that they are accepted but one, who has an obvious physical disbility or is a minority later gets a rejection letter...it would just seem like they were rejected based on appearance alone. I think it would be legally safer for them not to accept anyone on the spot, but to just send the acceptance letter in two weeks.

Thanks, SJTH. Of course, in our neck of the woods (NJ/Philly area) people are: "Texas? Huh?" (implied: "why??"). This goes for several members of the family at Thanksgiving dinner, lol. Then again, just checked the US News rankings--that school's comp sci dept moved into top 10. Didn't realize that...maybe that will explain it a bit to family...

missypie--interesting legal slant to that. Maybe they only interviewed those whom they had already accepted? Maybe the interview was a 'demonstrated interest' factor--if they showed up, they exhibited requisite interest to get the final go-ahead? Just a guess...otherwise it does sound a bit risky to deny after interview.

S (2 years ago) interviewed as the last formality of the application process. The app required a signature at the time of the interview, but yes I believe he was in already.

D had her first interview this week and props to the interviewer who emailed my d ahead of time with a little information about himself, encouraged her to ask any questions she wanted without fear of judgment re the topic, chose a comfortable setting, and then let the interview happen. D and interviewer visited over an hour and she left glowing - she can't say how the interview went in the traditional sense of whether or not she personally did well. However, and I quote "it was fun" - and this was for a reach school that could have knocked her confidence off. I think any interviews that follow now have a certain standard of their own to measure up to - and D won't necessarily blame herself totally for a bad interview.

Again as a parent wow! to an interviewer who took the time to do it right and remembered that the applicant was a young person. (BTW, he told D that he had one college interview that was BAD with an older professor. He determined that one day he would interview prospective students and do a better job.)

JoLynne - mea culpa! mea culpa! I was under the mistaken assumption that UT had a separate college for computer science.

Isn't it odd how computer science departments are bounced around? Some universities have them with math, some with engineering, some all to themselves, some lumped with science, etc. Nobody knows where to put them!

fireflyscout---don't worry; I'm always on the verge of panic throughout this process (superficial calm after the apps have been completed is easily ruptured, lol!).

It is funny how comp sci is in the engineering dept at one school, arts & science in another, etc. At U of Mich, you can get your comp sci degree in the liberal arts college if you want (as well as in the engineering school). Son didn't think he'd go the B.A. route--but the choice was there!

TwinK got her first acceptance yesterday to University of Portland. Go Pilots! :D :D

Congrats to you and TK!

Thanks cpeltz. This was an important one for her so I am really glad it worked out this way.

Your other D was accepted there previously, right? I'm sure that made TK's acceptance important to her and maybe more so to you so she doesn't feel inferior. Are there a lot of crossover schools on their lists? You have double the anxiety that most of us are experiencing!

Yea! Go UP!!! I have several friends going to the UP women's soccer playoff game today. Congrats to TwinK!

cpeltz you hit the nail on the head. I have no idea if they will end up at the same school but I just don't want any hurt feelings that would result from an acceptance and a denial from the same school. So far, so good! SJTH wish we could get that game on TV I know the girls would enjoy watching!

Congrats to you & TwinK, historymom!!

Historymom - what great news for twinK! Congrats to you both! I am so happy for you and your girls.

historymom - congrats to TwinK. The first acceptance is always a good thing and in this case an even better thing. (My older sisters are twins, so yeah - I understand some of the twin dynamics.)

historymom, Congrats to you and your twins!

Ok, I'm leaving in the a.m. with S2 for his big audition on Monday. Please everyone send really good vibes about 10:30 monday morning? I am a wreck already!!! I am such a control freak and I have absolutely no control over this...BUT I am so honored to have some time with S2 and to watch him pursue his love!!!

SJTH, your S will have all the parents in this forum sending out good vibes, so don't worry!

Okay, this is all new to us, son rec'd his first acceptance letter today and says they need a deposit by sometime in December. Not sure if we should do that as this is the first one he has heard from and some he won't hear from until sometime in January. Advice?

ScrappinMom--that does seem weird. Obviously this was not some kind of binding early decision application, right?
